'If you knew that every breath you took could save hundreds of life into the future have you walked down this path of knowledge, would you run that path of knowledge as fast as you could?' by Paul Stamets
There is nothing more important in my life than trying to restore the balance of our home- Mother Earth. My life is about walking the red road: I can't never turn back from my path of doing good to others and, by this, I mean to everything that is in this world. When I see pollution, destruction of forests, animal mistreat, injustice… something very deep stirs inside of me, this explosion of: how did we get to this? Why are human beings acting so irrational? How can we clean up this mess? And I hope to have some answers for you and that's why I am here.
These are hard times, very hard times for everyone, we women can feel it more than ever. And Brazil seems to be going through one of the darkest periods of its history, with the new horrible President Bolsonaro and its politics against human and environmental rights, I could spend this whole essay talking about negative things that have been going on in Brazil, you can only imagine how an Indigenous person, from there, feels. But I'm done with that, 'if you want to see change, you have to be the change', like Gandhi said, and I am a walking change, a survival, a resilient person that has been feeling quite alone in this fight, but I can't stop myself from fighting for the life that supports us, I'm fighting for all of us, even for the bad guys, I'm fighting for the right to clean water, air and food. I fight for the balance to be restored, for the birds and the bees, for the next generations, so our kids have a world to live on.
And I found some answers on how to clean the Environment from the toxins we have been dumping and restore habitats with my experiences and studies in life.
A very important and impactful influence in my life has been the research of Paul Stamets. During a Conference I was attending on Biodynamic and Organic Agriculture in Monterrey, CA, called ECOFARM. Paul Stamets blew my mind with the research he has been doing for a while on Mushrooms, Fungi. I remembered at the time of an article I had read a while ago about how a black fungus was cleaning Chernobyl and was able to resist the so high levels of toxicity (here is the article http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/251128, from 2008). But, Paul Stamets` lecture changed my life. I can't thank him enough for the whole work and knowledge he has been spreading, it is truly about saving the world, seriously,** the whole world**. The lecture is on youtube by Mushrooms, Mycology of Consciousness - Paul Stamets, EcoFarm Conference Keynote 2017.
(And if you want to know more about how Fungi can save the world, please, read this article:
'A fungus found growing in soil at a landfill site on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan, may be a solution to the alarming levels of plastic pollution clogging up our oceans. Fariha Hasan, a microbiologist at Quaid-I-Azam University in Islamabad, discovered the fungi Aspergillus tubingensis can rapidly break down polyurethane plastic.'

Bioremediation using Mushrooms, this idea is brilliant. Mushrooms break down toxins, they turn these compounds into other non toxic compounds, they are the decomposers of our environment creating compost and soil, they can even break down rocks and plastic, they bring moisture back so trees can thrive, restore habitats, they also combat other harmful fungus, bacterias and virus! For human beings (and for the earth), wow, I don't know where to start, they are antidepressive, antioxidant, immune stimulant, antitumor... There it was. The answer. Clean the land with compost, mulch and mushrooms, bring the native plants and wildlife back. The answer to so many of our problems. Other answers are: let's stop using fossil fuels and plastic. Let's stop with GMO`s, pesticides and herbicides. And Love.
Ok, so all we need is organic matter, mycelium, wood chips… water. And love.
We need to clean the rivers and oceans urgently, because us humans have already made too many mistakes.
