The Old Dog Presents: Tree Tuesday, Getting to The Root of The Problem With 5 SBD in Prizes!

in savedtrees •  7 years ago  (edited)

It takes a long time for a tree to grow and no time at all to cut one down!

I'm a tree lover!

Here's one example and here's another!

Do You Like Discovering Trees That Have Been Saved?

Sometimes you see trees that are so appreciated that people go to great lengths to co-exist with them even in urban settings. I saw such a tree in the courtyard of a municipal building in Tenerife.

Look at the way that the paving stones have been cut to go around this trees roots!

He's a rather gnarled old fellow but still, why cut the poor guy down. He's adding interest, shade and a much needed thing called oxygen!

This last example is from the city of Lugano Switzerland. The photo is circa 1941 and when they put in the street car line, after much debate and controversy they went around this giant Sequoia. It's still there today and it was a great act to have saved it! Photo credit: e-pics.ethz.ch

Here's a photo of @lelabird60 giving it a big hug just before we registered it at monumentaltrees.com

Here's Our Little 5 SBD Contest!

  • In the comments put a picture of a tree that has been saved by building around it!
  • There will be three prizes of 3 SBD, 2 SBD and 1 SBD and who knows maybe more because the Old Dog like to give!
  • You can submit your photos until this post pays out
  • Feel free to create a post but put the picture here in the comments as well.
  • Please use the tag "savedtrees"

I hope that you enjoyed this article "Tree Tuesday, Getting to The Root of The Problem With 5 SBD in Prizes!"

Very good!

Beautiful photos I can see your great effort.

Tree in the middle of road saved by 'hindu' mythology.. people worship here this tree...(sorry i dont have photo of tree saved by building)

Actually this is exactly what I was looking for. Men building around a tree in order not to cut it down!

I'm glad constructors have some feelings for nature 😊
Good example!

Hey great entry. Thanks so much for participating. I'll head over and check your post!

Here is a picture I found on the internet:

I made a post to show this restaurant better. I couldn't pass showing off this beautiful site!

Wow, what a wonderful atmosphere to be in. Thanks a lot!

I like more the little girl hugging the tree,, Nature hugs nature and this is the amazing thing abut it.

Yes you can get great power and inspiration from hugging a tree!

I believe yes,, sometimes when I feel soo mad and powerless I just want a hug,, hugging a tree is really a great idea I could feel how it would calm me if I do it.
Thanks

Lovely!

Thanks!

This is my entry:) This tree is growing up on the top of Wavel's castle in Krakow city. For saving this tree, service staff had to dismantle several pieces of pavement:)

That's a very interesting picture. Thanks!

This tree is inside the restaurant. It is going through the roof...
Saving the tree and use it as a nice decoration.

Wow, I wonder how they stop the rain from coming in.

Saw this tree growing in Calumet, Michigan

image

You really saw that? Wow!

We were so astonished and trying to figure out how they got into the door that we forgot to take pictures and had to drive around the block and go back past again!

That reminds me of a joke - when you want someone to go away, we used to say

act like a tree and leaf

Makes me laugh looking at it!!

Hahaha! That does fit!

How 'bout a tree that saves its self? I took this photo in Turkey Point (Normandale) a few years ago. I'm not blogging it bc I did a couple of months ago. It's an interesting perspective on a will to live, I think.

Screen_Shot_2017-09-16_at_3.03.22_PM.png

Someone could have chopped it down because it wasn't tree like, but they kept it and nourished it and co existed. And hopefully will live happily ever after.

Wow, amazing! Turkey Point, I had great times there as a young teenager in the 1970's!

Amazing tree

It's interesting how life tries to continue despite the obstacles.

Holy COW that tree is absolutely massive at the end. Plus I love the Steem shirt!

I didn't know of any trees that fit that criteria so it got me searching the Internet for pictures of ones out of curiosity. Although it isn't exactly a building, I found a tree that grew right through an old fence! I thought it was too cool not to share.

That is cool. The tree will always win the battle!

I LOVE those trees!

@kus-knee, Here's my entry. This tree has old Dutch fort in Sri Lanka in the Galle district. Its southern province part of My motherland. I think its too old. But this tree has natural condition yet without destroying.

0c1a610bb355d4e4051e818bf99a56f6--galle-sri-lanka-ceylon-sri-lanka.jpg

Yes many would have cut this down!

Looks like it is time for me to be on the lookout for interesting trees... -10 degree weather be damned. I'm on a mission lol

Why not! If you find one that has been spared by building around it that would be great!

Possibly different to your original thought, "Tane Mahuta" the tree that holds Rangi, the sky father apart from Papa, the earth mother, so that daylight can shine on the earth and make things grow, is a great tourist attraction.
Tourists/Locals would "hug" the tree, and while they were there pinch a bit of bark as a memento, There were concerns that the tree would be "ring barked" by such actions, so a walkway was built to the tree with a surrounding fence to prevent souvenir hunters from doing their dastardly deed.

Awe inspiring!

I am surprised that no one has put up the Redwood trees? with the road going through the roots.
I can remember them being famous when I was a kid.

I’ve seen pictures of them.

I thought that one of them would have made the list by now.

L'argomento mi piace molto...non so che cosa troverò però da raccontare

I'm sure that you find something very nice for us!

I love the tree which you shared in your last post Giant Sequoia tree. That is a history and I like the history. I got a picture from google, I'm sure you will like it:

All the best and keep sharing great stuff @kus-knee

Very cool! Thanks!

I am a School Teacher by profession and i always address my students about the importance of trees and i asked them to grow one tree in their entire life for the removal of toxic gases in our environment.

Logically and worth reading blog post with beautiful photography. For me you're already the winner.

Yes it was saved.

That's a very interesting looking tree but I'm not quite sure what the picture is showing. Is that a little foot bridge?

Not a little foot bridge sir. There is a ferry in this place.
Location is Sri lanka - Rathnapura.

Congratulations for your love of nature and the trees dear friend @ kus-knee. Our ancestors have instilled in us the love for all those around us, our belief is that home in a past was a human being who at some time live with us as a person, can be a pajara, a tree or any other thing nature.
Here is my presentation of a saved tree that has not been collapsed when the city was built. In the distance you can see my wife and my granddaughter abigail, drinking some homemade bread.
I hope you like it
I wish you a great day

Thanks for this!

Everyone knows that you are supposed to cut down the trees, else their roots will break up the sidewalk.

But few know that most trees last longer than the concrete sidewalk.
The romans made concrete that lasted thousands of years. Our concrete, especially in places that are exposed to the weather, don't last much more than 50 years.

Sorry, I cannot enter your contest :-(
There are no such trees around here. The native trees that would be old enough are all shrubs. And the only "tree" trees are what people have planted after they moved here.

today is my 1st day on steemit and i m so surprised to see this sort of contests in this platform..this is very cool platform where you can fun,the knowledge and the money too..im really happy about your initiative to direct people to save more and more trees..im with you..i clap you for your great thought.

Good idea for a contest. Tomorrow I go in search of some unusual tree...I like your original contests.

cool contest! Nothing is more beautiful than a tree.

great idea... i hope I can find one in my neighborhood.

wow it seems like very eco friendly contest..appreciate your effort to insist people on saving trees :)

i like your photography. nice

a sensitivity that deserves appreciation has been shown.

@kus-knee

you are a healthy person. because plants are very necessary for us humans. tampa our plants are very easy to attack by disease. but with some unhealthy air trees all filtered by plants and then remove co² for us to breathe.
I really like your post this time. thank you

Thanks so much. Nice and warm in Tampa?

nice post @kus-knee
happy new year !

Love the idea of this competition. Will keep my eye open for survivors in my hood. Sadly, too many are being chopped down to make room for patios (in gardens) and new infrastructural projects that benefit the treasury. My neighbours are allergic to nuts and seeds (and pollen) so there went the beech, the birch and even the chestnut tree! And then Christmas with its massacre each year, for just a few days of green indoor cheer (get a banana plant or a palm! Lasts longer).

You select a fantastic subject to write the blog. without trees we don't live in single day in the earth. Please continue the subject & I hope more article on trees, steemians will taste from your writing. Thank you. Upvoted & Following you.

Tree monument Oak "Black Night". It was planted in 1792

my post

1792? Amazing!

Here is a new post about another oak tree

That our city did not look like a concrete jungle, we are trying to save each tree to avoid being trampled and did not bring harm to his roots. It looks that way:

Many trees here for many years. They grow from the times of the tsarist Empire. We want to preserve them for future generations.

Great photos and another great contest Old Dog. I really respect you because I know that is a full time good keeping things running smooth!

Awesome stuff, I love your eco-friendliness :-)

Thanks for sharing!

This is the Tree in the Rock, in Buford, Wyoming, USA. I took picture with my iPhone back in October 2013. The railroad saved this tree back in 1867. Here's a link that has a little bit of the history:https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11660

Here we are in the Greek island of Ikaria, in a mountainous village called Frandato. This place is an old fashioned cafe.

This ancient cedar tree was there long before they started building the Highgate Cemetery in London, so they kept it, built a circle of tombs around it and now it is called "Circle of Lebanon".

IMG_20171125_143818.jpg

Highgate Cemetery is a must if you are visiting London.
Here is another view from the tree.

Great blog Dog! I'll be checking it out often, cheers!

I had pictures of trees that were rescued from beavers. Need to search:)

Hi @kus-knee, I have always feel sad when I saw trees being cut in the name of development projects. It happens a lot here in Kuala Lumpur. Thanks for this contest. It is the best contest to create a greater awareness about this trees cutting issue. I am all for this noble effort. Have resteemed and upvoted. Save The Trees!... Peace 😊

This one is interesting but I could get a full picture!!

It seems like the tree was small once and someone built around it and then it grew bigger and eventually started breaking its way around the bricks!! There is also proof that this tree is very old because the bricks surrounding it are a older version. Today’s bricks are much thicker these ones are thin!!

I don't think you should count it, but it's fun anyways!

First of all i must honor this name @Olddog for such an idea, privilege and as well giving away love(excess sbd) without expecting any in return, that's awesome.

I love trees in fact mother nature in general.
I discovered this evergreen Llangernyw Tree that has been supplying Earth with oxygen for over 4,000-5,000 years now.
