As Manchester United's legends, Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes pointed out, Manchester United overestimated Juventus turning this match an affair between United's boys and Juventus men. As usual, Manchester United looked nowhere near the level of Juventus side in the first half and they were completely outclassed by Juventus. And the only justification for this was the mentality of United's players, the coach and the tactics they used in today's game in the first half.
In the group H affair against Manchester United and Juventus, United was lucky to end the game with a narrow defeat, big thanks to The Wall de Gea and Lindelof who was impressive today. Dybala got the winner in the 17th minute of the match. The two big names in European Football came head to head and it was a one-sided affair in the entire first half. Juventus are playing with an aim to win the title but for United, they were playing for the sake of playing.
Juventus dominated today from the start of the match. As usual, United conceded the goal in the 17th-minute with some defensive confusion. Ronaldo got the cross which deflected from Cuadrado into the box and there was nobody to track the Dybala. Dybala calmly finished taking Juventus a goal ahead.
The goal didn't stop Juventus and they kept on attacking against United. De Gea made some wonderful saves to keep United in game. One of them included a wonderful double save to deny Ronaldo's freekick and Matuidi's volley. United's fan glimpsed some attack but was for nothing as the first half ended in 1-0 for Juventus.
But as the second half started, United marched forward looking for the equalizer and get back into games as they did in recent matches. Martial found himself in Juventus box for a couple of times but couldn't get it home. In the meantime, de Gea pulled excellent save to deny Ronaldo again in the 52nd minute.
United was the better team in the second half and they continued to press forward. In the 75th minute, United had the best chance of the match. The wonder effort by Pogba hit the bar and to the Szczęsny head to go out of the box. United tried till the end of the match but was unable to break down strong Juventus defense. United and Mourinho had no second plan and didn't use any of the substitutes.
With this win, Juventus are clear in the top of the table with 9 points while United are in second with 4 points. The only positive outcome for United today was that Valencia was held by Young boys to keep United in second. These two sides again meet in 7th of November at Allianz Stadium.
