FPL: GoalKeeper Selection

in sbcfantasy •  6 years ago

The hardest part of FPL is initial team formation, as there are too many options and you can only have to choose 15 players within the budget of 100 million. Above that, you can only choose 2 goalkeepers from 20 teams, and again budget plays the important roles here. It is hard to decide 2 goalkeepers for your team. In most of my career, I went for the rotatable budget pick. In the latter part of the last season, I went for the premium keeper in the form of de Gea, started him every week, and it paid me very well

If you are a beginner, I will sum up it in short. You should not spend heavily on goalkeepers as they don't return big, and you can only play one of your goalkeepers at a time. Heaving two premium goalkeepers are waste of your budget. You should either go for 1 premium+ 1 bench warmer or 2 rotatable cheap goalkeepers.

Here is the list of the goalkeepers ranked based on the fpl points last season:

Regular starting goalkeepers are priced between 4.5 to 5.5 million and above based on different factors. Based on price there are 3 distinct categories, and we will discuss these 3 categories here:

Premium:( 5.5 million and above):

De Gea, Ederson, Lloris, Courtois, and Liverpool new signing Alisson come into premium categories. All expect De Gea at 6.0 mil is available for 5.5 ml, who collected 18 clean sheets last season.

De Gea had a very poor world cup and no more target for Madrid. We have to wait and see if he can repeat his form from last year. At 6 million, you get plenty of clean sheets, save points and bonus points from the United number 1. 29.5% of managers already got him for his service. I personally would watch him for a couple of weeks before deciding on him. ManCity's Ederson was number 2 last season with 16 clean sheets and should improve this year. He is one of my favorite for this year and comes to number four on ownership after De Gea, Pickford and Fabianski. Ederson doesn't have to do lots of work between the sticks which means he doesn't get many save points and bonus points, unlike De Gea. Lloris and Courtois would probably miss a couple of GWs as a late returner after the world cup. Courtois managed 15 clean sheets last season, but there are rumors of him going to Madrid.

Liverpool's new signing Becker can give you both clean sheets, and saves. He had the most saves in Champions league and a definite starter for Liverpool. But I will see how he settles in premier league before getting him. He already has 12.5% ownership in FPL, this means FPL managers kept lots of trust to Becker this season.

Mid-priced:

At this price, Burnley's Nick Pope leads the pack with 11 clean sheets and 152 points but unavailable because of injury, and you should keep an eye on the team news before the PL starts. England's number 1 had high expectation but had a very bad start to the seasons. He managed 145 points, 10 CS and 122 saves and is second favorite goalkeeper this season with ownership of 22.2%. Arsenal have signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen who comes at 5.0 million, and he managed 10 CS last season, and another player to keep an eye on.

Cheap:

These set of goalkeeper comes at 4.5 million, and you can rotate them every week based on form and fixture. The three name you should not forget is Brighton's Ryan, West Ham's Fabianski and Huddersfield Lossl who were the best performing cheap keepers from last season. Ryan collected 146 points with 10 clean sheets and was among top 5 goalkeeper last season while Lossl had 135 points with 10 clean sheets and was at number 9 last season. They both have plenty of saves and bonus points. Fabianski now has moved to West Ham, and should be the replacement for Adrian. Last season, he racked up 157 points, third best among all the goalkeepers in FPL. 22% manager already got him, and he is the third most owned goalkeeper in FPL this season.

Another player to watch out for is Portugees stopper Rui Patricio who is now on Wolves and is priced kindly at 4.5 million. Wolves were the best defensive team in a championship last season. Also, keep your eye on Crystal Palace new signing Guiata from Getafe who is available at 4.5 million and should start over Hennessey.
