Thank you for this @joanstewart. The sudden spike confused me to no end and I was baffled by the fact that different services reported vastly different prices. Normally they are all in the same ballpark.

It is a bit disconcerting that things and people so far removed from me could have such an impact on an environment where I find such joy.

But I must say, I liked the sight of those prices. I should have taken a screenshot. It is the stuff dreams are made of. I hope we see it again soon in a more general and realistic way.

I read some posts about this at the time @joanstewart, and people thought it was that one exchange doing manipulation. Then some others, kind of went along somehow. This worries me to see it. I was not happy that an exchange can do this manipulation. I pulled sbd out right at that time, and I assure you I did not get that great looking price.

thank you for the update i saw this event and greatly confuse i thought that coinmarketcap had made a funny mistakes as i was comparing the price from other sources and almost all marks at $1.72 never knew it was in hitbtc.

I was double checking it because in bittrex seems that the price was still the same and when i checked on other sites it was so high. I didnt knew that it was in hitbtc. Thanks for this joan. I hope it gets to that high.

I've only learned about this recently (yesterday). At first I was confused why busy.org's sbd price had a huge difference compared to the ones shown on bittrex. Then I found out that sbd price on hitBtc had gone crazy. No idea why this though, one post claim it was some sort of social experiment but it is most likely a pump and dump. Nonetheless, I'm not sure how I should feel about it. Maybe I'm disappointed a miss it or worry that it will greatly affect the stability of Steemit, or both. Let's just say I have mixed feelings.

I read on an article that this was due to the HitBTC environment, they stopped accepting SBD and the price of the little they had just shot sky high. I don't know if this is true, but it doesn't explain this happening at CoinMarketCap.com also, even though there the highest I saw it at was about $6.00.

I think this is typical of cryptos, we see huge backings then panic selling creating the rollercoaster effect. Even with the peaks and troughs, sticking in there is what I consider the smart move.

Yeah I was surprised at the insane increase in prices too. Never thought SBD could go up that high. But such a drastic increase left me worried and thinking too. I felt like this is not good for the steemit ecosystem. Hopefully, I'm just overthinking things.

Yes movement on BTC would be great, adjustment was needed, no one thought it would take this long to rectify though.
