LIVING A WORTHY LIFE AND LEAVING A LEGACY

Acts 9:36-42 (NLV):

36 A woman who was a follower lived in the city of Joppa. Her name was Tabitha, or Dorcas. She did many good things and many acts of kindness. 37 One day she became sick and died. After they had washed her body, they laid her in a room on the second floor. 38 The city of Lydda was near Joppa. The followers heard that Peter was at Lydda and sent two men to ask him to come at once. 39 Peter went back with them. When he came, they took him to the room. All the women whose husbands had died were standing around crying. They were showing the clothes Dorcas had made while she was with them.

40 Peter made them all leave the room. Then he got down on his knees and prayed. He turned to her body and said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes and looked at Peter and sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then he called in the faithful followers and the women whose husbands had died. He gave her to them, a living person.

42 News of this went through all Joppa. Many people put their trust in the Lord.

Most people most times think having wealth and living a large or flamboyant life is what life is all about.

Yeah, they may be true but they've forgotten or might have forgotten that is not what life is all about.

Life is all about what you've done and left behind for others to carry on with when you're no longer there.

I love beautiful dress and love to dress simple and classic but what will I gain if when am gone, I have nothing to leave behind for my stay on earth? (The good times).

Please don't get me wrong, am not saying don't be rich or wealthy, am not saying don't look beautiful, all am saying is let people be able to sit and wish you were still with them, let them wish to leave the kind of life you lived and wish to continue where you actually stopped.

There is this adage that says, and I quote "A good name is better than wealth".

God gave you or blessed you to be a blessing to others and to your generation, He gave you that knowledge for your society, family and the rest not to be a pain in other peoples neck, not to make this world a living hell for others, not to mock people who are not well to do but to raise people that will live after you.

The early we put that as part of our daily life or routine to be a blessing to others so that we will leave a worthy legacy to our generation, the better the world becomes a beautiful place.

It is the will of God that our families and mini-empires grow, however, It seems clear that it is not in His will for institutional memories to disappear.

God is Omniscience, He does not forget nor need to be reminded. However, it is humbling and instructive to note the various ways God gave instructions for unique events in the life of HIS PEOPLE to be preserved and the reasons why in each case.

God said create memory. Do something that will or could be used for remembrance from time to time.

Like Dorcas who helped the poor, the needy, the homeless, the orphans, widows etc, if she was allowed to die that day, she had left something, a legacy in the heart of all but because there was none of her kind and because she did what she did wholeheartedly with joy and happiness they were not ready to lose her.

So it is when you give people something to remember you with, it will be hard to let you go.

PRAYER

Lord, I receive grace to acknowledge the milestones in my life, help me to leave a worthy legacy to my generation.
