Story by @seomommasays
This is the third part of a light hearted look at how some people behave online. In the first part, I introduced the comical ‘Snot Goblin’. Explaining how such people could fool others into trusting and following them, more importantly, how they could encourage people to give them money.
The story then moved on and we learned about how the snot goblin cried wolf and how that didn't work out so well in part 2.
We now go back to that mythical land where snot goblins and other nasties lurk about waiting to take advantage of the innocent to see if that pesky snot goblin has learned any lessons.
Sadly it seems that his magic has faded so far that he's descending into madness, at least if you use the definition of doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Let's take a peek and see what's happening.
Back in our mythical and magical land, our hero the techmage and his trusty band of followers have been working very hard to ensure everyone who once trusted the snot goblin get everything they were promised. They'd found a new island, Altonia and were busy making it very comfortable and useful for people.
The snot goblin on the other hand was not doing as well. His brass coins just weren't any good, even though he was still taking silver from unsuspecting people. His band of trolls just drifted off in ones and twos, well, they are trolls after all, so what can you expect?
He still had a few moronii trolls left, unfortunately moroniis are known for being, shall we say, a little dim. So his failing magic still worked on them. He asked them to attack our hero and his friends and even paid some marauding carrion eaters to gang up on one of them, a woman, because he felt she was a weak link. How wrong can you be!
He'd picked on an Amazon Princess, she was no weakling and so she fought back, she shone light and attention on him and his carrion eaters, the light hurt their eyes and confused their puny brains. The attention she focused on them alerted the techmage and his friends and as true friends, they came to her defence. Even though she didn't really need it (being an Amazon Princess you know) still they came.
The snot goblin had retreated to Cara Libre a place where he felt safe. The rulers of Cara Libre were, generally speaking quite liberal in what they allowed to be said and done in their land. The snot goblin built a place from where he could attack our Amazon Princess, his trolls weren't interested but the carrion eaters (well known to be too cowardly to attack face to face) jumped in too.
Some moronii trolls stood on the sidelines, waving raggedy flags, they were not seeing all the threats made by the snot goblin come true. They too were getting restive, despite their very poor eye site and tiny brains, things were just not adding up (they could add 1+1).
The Fellowship of the Coin (our hero and his merry band) soon had him on the run, they petitioned the rulers of Cara Libre and showed the lies and broken promises of the snot goblin and the carrion eaters. Soon, the snot goblin and his cohorts were banned from Cara Libre, they slunk off, trailing slime and with their ratty tails dragging behind them.
He was now reduced to finding anyplace he could to try and spread his lies, it hadn't worked before but because it had in the past, he thought it would still. His moronii trolls and carrion eaters were drifting away and he often blamed them for not standing up for him.
They haven't gone, because snot goblins and carrion eaters are in some ways immortal, regenerating like a particularly unpleasant vampire from any drops of credulousness or gullibility they could find.
So beware of snot goblins and carrion eaters, shine light on their activities and report them to the rulers of whatever land they inhabit. Become a member of the Fellowship of the Coin and fight to protect yourself and others.
Going to save this and read it later :)
