1 Macbook, 2 Sells, 2 Scams

in scam •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hey Steemers,
this is my first story so please don't go hard on me;

About 3 Weeks ago i put up a Macbook pro for sale about 900€ on a regional version of Ebay ( just like craigslist).
Just after about 10 Minutes, some very interested person wrote me if it was possible to get the package send by the end of the day, of course i said if you transfer me the money via paypal.
Shortly after i indeed got not only a mail, but also in my Paypal account the money, with the address attached to the transfer. Oddly the address was some Po Box from another person, but little did it matter to me because i have read that if the address named in the transfer is the one you send it to you are seller protected. I then did send the person the tracking code "and a photo of the bill for their finances". The Package made it on time, more or less, but weirdly it was never collected from the office??
So i checked in my ebay account to see the person i was dealing with deleted her account.
Well it didn't bother me, because from my side everything worked out quite fine, i got my money and the package is where it should be in terms of sellers protection of paypal.
2 weeks Pass by.
I got an email from the name that wrote with me on ebay: "I never ordered anything from you, nor did i tell anyone to order anything, transfer the money back to me or i will get in touch with my lawyer“
Well screw her right? No. As I made several calls with paypal, they explained what happened.
The buyer did make the transfer, but not as a business one but as a private one, and the address
Provided on there does not protect the seller because its in the message box not in the address box. The Paypal employer calmly tried to tell me, he believes me but, in terms of the policy, I am the one who is going to lose the case the person just opened on me.
I will not only lose my money, but most likely, the package returning won’t be my macbook, but some rocks for example. FUCK!
Well the only thing I can do right now, as I was told, is to provide paypal with all the evidence I have, which is the chat, the screenshots of my ad, and my tracking number. Also I should go to the police to file a report on this case. Also I have to transfer the money from my actual account to my paypal otherwise I owe paypal money…
What a fucking waste of time!!!
The police-officer was very nice, but not an expert on this field at all, so the case is going to be transferred to an other police agency.
Then out of nowhere. 2 Days of thinking how I am going to handle my loss, I get an email from paypal. Paypal decided on your behalf!!
The money was back back transferred to me!! I call back with paypal to thank them and to see what to do now. Paypal says, the case is closed the buyer has now option to reopen this case. But I should film the package that returns while I open it, to see whats inside and to be insured, because if you just open it and there is a piece of elephant shit inside, its on you!

Another 3 Days pass by, DHL on my door, wait that package doesn't look like it did get opened, but I film It anyways, and while opening i try to explain it to the postman what I am doing and why I am so unfaithful towards the package. To our both surprise, there was my actual macbook in the package, just as I send it away! No signs of opening whatsoever! I turned it on and everything was fine with it as well.
Weird I got the money and the macbook now and feel like a genius scammer myself, but my bad feelings hit me pretty quick so I call paypal and tell them other than expected I did indeed get my computer back, so I guess I owe the person the 900€ now right?
The employer and me are both wondering who was the genius to try to scam me and then didn't go to the post office to get the package, but yes I still should just for humanity and karma transfer the money back to the person. MEH I guess but I got my computer so allright.
Ring ring ring! Paypal calls me back, they Checked the case again, seems like the person got money from paypal, so I don't owe anyone any money, so I can keep the money and sell the laptop once again.
DAMN Jackpot!

Okay new ad, this time I try ebay because I thought I would be a bit safer there. Two days after the ad I get a message, YOUR MACBOOK HAS BEEN SOLD! YEEESSSS!!!
How can I be so luck??
Well someone with the delightful name „adriennepedroiamvp15“ messages me about the shipping costs and stuff, everything seems to work out just fine.
He sends me the address where to send it, but I learned I need the address in the address field in the business transfer to be insured, so I tell him to do so.
Well my payment was made on Sunday, at least thats what „Jonhson Williams“ Told me, my british fellow gave me 2 different addresses and all in all in the whole conversation where 4 different names. :adriennepedroiamvp15, Gloria Anderson, Jonhson Williams, and Kylieb914.
Well that was shady, but I guess I just tell him to transfer me the money and I will get in contact with paypal and with ebay to be sure with this sell.

Next mail I get is gold for me as I am a paypal expert by now :
I have made the payment and the money had already been deducted from my account... please, according to the email i have from paypal,i was told that the money will not reflect instantly due to the new policy for international transaction.I was told that they have received the money on your behalf and they have notified you of my payment.... please check your email inbox, bulk or junk messages to see if paypal has notified you of anything concerning my payment.... i just got an email from paypal in my spam message now stating that they shall credit your account that there are some protocols you need to follow.....please confirm the mail from paypal in your email and get back to me

Of course I call paypal just to make sure I am not wrong thinking this again is some kind of scam, and yes sure it is, it even has the delightful name „Nigerian Scam“ where they send you fake invoice emails from „paypal“ telling there was money transferred to your account.
Well shoutout to icloud, but the mail never reached me, and thats exactly what I told, Jonhson aka Gloria aka Kylie aka Adrienne.

I guess the moral of the Story is don't trust no-one on the web! storybild.jpg
