Many full moons ago when I was a young boy, my brother and I spent an evening at my uncles while my mother worked an evening shift at the old folks home. I don't remember the time of year but what I watched on the television that evening had a huge impact on the years to come.
I was used to watching Saturday morning TV; Gummy Bears, Wacky Races, Scooby Doo, He-Man, Duck Tails, Inspector Gadget, Cities of Gold, Care Bears, and lots more. I remember a character from the Moomins being a little creepy, but that was about it as far as being scared.
And then, American Werewolf in London.
I remember two guys going into a pub, and being a little weirded out by the locals - probably not too dissimilar to visiting a pub off the beaten track these days really, except you wouldn't hear much chat about wolves - sheep maybe.
These two chaps in Puffa jackets left the place and proceeded to walk across a field, only for one of them to be attacked by something and eaten. The dead friend then kept visited his friend by popping up in the mirror, decaying a little each time he did.
I'm not even sure how much of that is true, but that's what I remember from the movie. What is true though is that those images fucked my sleep up for at least 2/3 years afterwards, and the scariest movie I've seen in the past 30 or so years since is probably IT, or The Saw, or 'I see dead people', and people tell me they aren't even Horror movies. I am officially too afraid to watch anything that has been screened to mess with your head, because it may well do that, and I don't sleep enough as it is.
It's fair to say that I'm not a huge fan of Halloween, but I did by some treats in case anyone knocked on my friends door this evening - which they did not. The chocolate has not been wasted though :)
On the 12th of November I move in to my new place and so for the next week or so I'm at a mates, sleeping on a mattress on the floor as their lads broke the bed-frame by jumping on it. This will do me though, it's quite cosy next to the gas radiator - something I've not seen much of in the last four years. The boiler is also in this room though and so I'll be woken up at 5:30 when it comes to life again.
Tomorrow is another holiday day, and if I am to stay at this place of work then I've still got 5 more to take before year is out, excluding the 3 already booked for Christmas. It is unlikely I'll still be 'here' though, as I got a call today asking to meet with more of the team who work for the place I went for an interview at a week ago. It sounds promising I think, but even if this doesn't work out I'm hoping for a swift change as the current role is not for me at all.
I'll probably use the day tomorrow to buy some more things for the new place, some towels might be an idea, and probably a pan and a few plates and cutlery. Sheets, an ironing board, and something to hang drying clothes on might also be a plan. Four years ago I gave all this sort of stuff away for a song, including 100's of books, a 50 inch TV, a sofa, washing machine, and a couple of decent beds with memory phone mattresses. It's a bit shit to be starting again, but this is what's required for this year at least.
Last week I bought lottery tickets to cover a couple of weeks of Euro Lottery and to my surprise I got an email today informing me I'd won a prize. After resetting my password (oops) I logged in to find that i'd won 30 pounds - about 250 STEEM. This and it being payday today have spurred me on to by a little more STEEM and hopefully these purchases work out to be reasonably timed.
Farewell Halloween, Bonfires next week :)
Cheers
Asher

I'm not into horror films either, but I'll watch some that I'd consider scary. I'm not into those what just set out to make you jump and have gore for its own sake. Just not my thing.
Good luck with the new place. I dread moving house as we have so much stuff and I'm loath to throw it away.

How can those jumpy films be enjoyable, I don’t understand and just want to enjoy the popcorn and beer.
Thanks Steve, keep collecting your stuff 😁

Bonfires for Guy Fawkes? I really wish we had a celebration like that here in Australia.

That’s the one. A celebration to mark some guy trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament. It’s a good night, although can’t be helping the ozone.

Almost every time I have moved, there is at least one unopened box before it is time to move again. Starting over is not a lot of fun. I don't know about England and Europe prices, but save a lot out, make that first big priced purchase you need to do be the Bed. Going cheap on the sleep part really really sucked. You think you can deal with it for a few months, it never worked that way for me, because face it once you get a cheap bed, it is hard to justify throwing out that mistaken purchase and then increasing the price of a good bed. Go straight for the good bed, bypass the cheap ones.

Damn right, the bed is key. The place has one already but it’s likely the mattress is a bit crap and so I’ll be looking to replace or add a foam topper. I have a good pillow that I take everywhere!

Buying Steem with lotery wins... isn't that everybody's dream? ;0)
Your story sounded a little familiar. When I was about 6 years old, I came out of bed at night to ask my mum something. She and my stephdad were watching a Tarzan film. All I remember was something about cannibalism. I may only have watched like 5 minutes, but it had a huge impact. When I went back to bed, I asked to turn a light on in my bedroom. I slept with a light on until I was like 18. I'm still terrified in the dark, but - truth to be told - I've been feeding that fear with the love for horror stories and films I developed during my adult life. :0)
Fingers crossed you get the new job. And having your own place is gonna feel so good!
While you're waiting for those, have a !BEER

Selling STEEM for a lottery-sized amount would be better 😁
I read you have faced your fears - I don’t want to risk my sleep and find out of my brain no longer cares too much for the scary stuff.
Thanks Mike, I think I should know next week and then the week after, my own place at last.

"30 bob!"
My, my you have been away a long time. I think you'll find that's 30 quid! 😂
We've had a good few years of wonderful Octobers and you come back and look what happens. Might be a good time to uncast you spell. 😁
Good luck with the new job. Sounds like it's all falling into place nicely and . . .
"It's a bit shit to be starting again"
. . . stop whinging. I can't tell you how many times I've done that. I fact, in a way, I wish I had to do it now. It's been a good while since the last time and I'm drowning in clutter as a result.
There's nothing like a move and a new start for clearing a bit of space.
Have a fun day shopping (bit of an oxymoron that but hey ho) and a brill weekend! 💙

What bob then? Old pennies?
I’m not a fan of clutter but buying essentials again is just a pain in the arse. It’ll be one trip to Wilko just for the ironing board!
Thanks Gill, have a good weekend 😁

Nah. Bob was the predecimalisation shilling. The one that was 12 pennies.
Ironing board? That's an interesting one. Something I only ever use about once a year, if that.
Mind you John uses it every week. Must be the shirt/work thing. 😂

Yes it is, although I don’t mind ironing I would rather not need to. Can’t go to work in a creased shirt!

Here in Portugal Halloween doesn't have that big of a tradition, I know some people that do trick or treat, but they aren't many, and no one decorates... My Halloween tradition is basically watching a movie or two and that's it, and they aren't normally scary movies because, it messes with my head and I can barely sleep all night...

David Naughton!!! I waited on him once...probably in 2001-2002 ish when I worked at Outback Steakhouse. Cool dude and he was super surprised when I told him he’s in one of my favorite guilty pleasure films...Midnight Madness. He told me nobody ever said that to him. Lol

Saw a comment from you on steemworld but cant locate it now - yes I have jumped out of a plane attached to some dude, a long while ago now but I think it has to go down as the wildest thing I've ever done. I had to have a sleep that afternoon!

I might have. Not sure to be honest. Lol
Yeah, the first couple times I went I remember being so exhausted afterwards. Like all the adrenaline was used up and I was completely falling asleep. Weirdly enough this time I didn’t feel too tired.
Anyway, glad to see you are doing ok brother. Sucks we will be missing next week but I’m hopeful that we will make it out for 2020.
