A story my grandpa told me
I was talking with my grandpa, who had recently started fishing and got hooked on crankfishing, and he told me about a river where he used to fish when he was little.
Grandpa had never fished with a lure before.
I wondered if I could catch a goby with such a lure.
We enjoyed fishing together.
On the way back home, after catching more than enough goby for dinner, we were driving a light truck on the road leading to a mountain pass when Grandpa started talking to us.
You, let me tell you a scary story about this place.
There is an old tunnel on this pass that is a famous haunted place. It is said that if you park your car in the tunnel and turn off the lights, a ghost will appear.
Is this the tunnel they say is haunted?
He shook his head and said he didn't know anything about that.
He told me that this area used to be a village, and that he used to have a friend who used to play there when he was little.
He told me that when he was a kid, a blind man (apparently visually impaired) asked him for directions, so he told him the way into the mountain pass to play a prank on him.
Even though it was just a kid's prank, it was terrible to throw a visually impaired man all by himself into a mountain where even the old paths were not well maintained.
Then, after the prank was discovered, everyone went looking for him, and when they did, a dog or a monkey attacked him and ate him.
I felt sick when I imagined the scene.
I said, "That's terrible, and here's the idiot's house."
and then put my blinker out and drive into someone's yard.
I was puzzled and he said, "Well, go get me a goby."
I was puzzled, so I got out of the car and went to the front door.
He came out of the front door, his left eye blank, and my grandpa said, "You caught a lot of gobies, I'll share some with you.
He said, "Did you see his face? The old man has lost the use of one of his eyes, and his son and grandchildren all have bad eyesight. All the kids in that town either have bad eyes or are injured, so there are a lot of glasses shops.
I was horrified to see that there were eyeglass shops everywhere.
Well, don't worry, you won't have to worry if you don't live there for long.
I thought I was going to punch him in the face.
I thought I was going to hit him. "If you do anything wrong, someone will see you and come after you, so don't do anything too wrong.
I was a little annoyed because he summed up my grandpa's habit so well.
Later, I found out that there really is a grave near the tunnel, and I heard a story about the origin of the haunted place from an unexpected person. It was a strange feeling to hear something like that from an unexpected person.
I fried the goby, it was delicious.
