After 4 to 5 weeks of little or no activity via my account, the semester as finally ended and time to parry in jenifas voice, if you not watched the movie, Jenifers Diary, you should
Well the semester did take a little more time than expected and the final week of exams was more tedious than ever, having to do four practical’s in a day due to student/lecturer negligence I think
Although, practical’s held were not strange, as most already been done during my National Diploma days which included:
- Determination of mud density using a mud balance
- Determination of the rheological properties of drilling mud
- Preparation of drilling mud and testing of its pH
- Determination of marsh funnel viscosity.
Would have loved to go into them a little and show you guys the life of a petroleum engineering student with respect to mud preparation and am sure most of you guys would appreciate it, preparation of mud is unique as it requires you using the right amount of grams and mils, or even mud additives when the need be.
Drilling mud, is a necessary aspect of drilling as the circulatory system requires it to operate, without it, there is no circulation, In other-words, we keep on drilling on a spot with the cuttings still intact, getting bit balling, wear and tear of our bits due to heat and no lubrication or coolant from the drilling fluid and also possible influx of fluid/kick due to the unavailability of drilling fluid to act as an hydrostatic pressure against the formation pressure and kick, not something you would like to experience when drilling, if left uncontrolled becomes disastrous/Blow Out.
The above links take you to a summary of what the above petroleum terms mean, do have fun learning a new word xD
Its application as regarded to drilling is unique and I will say without drilling fluid, drilling can not take place.
They were all interesting and unique, they brought back memories of way back then and what was once lost as been recovered again.
Like the saying that goes
"Tell Me and I Will Forget; Show Me and I May Remember; Involve Me and I Will Understand." In 450BC statement made by Confucius.
The practical’s were interesting, but reporting it was no fun lol.
Had to spend 24hrs making and writing down my own understanding of the practical that went on and am not so sure I did a proper write-up of the event/practical. Well, due to limited time and having to return back home that day, won’t blame myself xD.
But at the end am grateful the semester is over and time to get occupied with steemit and others.
See you guys around and lets have fun/ parry.
Wow!! you're petroleum student?! Glad you cane out of exams okay, hope to see more of your content!
