The American school dances.... the dream of many Italian teenagers who, between romantic comedies and TV series, have had the opportunity to fantasize about this tradition made in USA.
But how much is true and how much of "fictionalism" in what they make us see? And above all, how many school dances are there during the year?
Everyone knows about the famous Prom, but in reality there are actually 3 school dances, and not for everyone.... So let's see some clarity.
SCHOOL DANCES IN THE USES
During the 4 years of high school, every year the boys take part in 2 dances common to all, homecoming and winter formal, and a dance dedicated only to the children of the third and fourth years, the Prom.
HOMECOMING
Homecoming is a bit of a dance at the beginning of the year. It is done at the end of the Homecoming week, which is a week of events, activities and celebrations that somehow celebrate the pupils' return to school. Every day, for an entire week, a different theme is chosen that students will follow in terms of clothing. On Friday, the week ends with a super demanding day for the whole school and homecoming football game, the first match of the school's football team. On Saturday there is finally the famous dance.
Homecoming dance includes a short cocktail dress. If the girl is invited by a boy, the boy will have to wear the tie matched to the colour of the "partner's" dress, as well as the corsage that will give her. Needless to say, even for homecoming the preparations are all, especially for girls... From the choice of dress that should not be shown at all in advance, to the preparation of "makeup and wig", nothing can be left to chance!
WINTER FORMAL
Winter formal, or Snow ball, is done between December and March. It may happen that it is organized in conjunction with some other events such as Valentine's Day or New Year's Eve, or Christmas holidays, and it is not necessarily done at school, on the contrary it is often organized in outdoor halls.
Like the Prom, the winter formal also includes formal clothing, so a long dress elegant.
During the winter formal, a live sounding band is hired, as well as a catering service for dinner.
PROM
Decreasing of (Promenade), it is "the school dance" par excellence. As mentioned above, only young people of the penultimate (junior) and last year (senior) can participate, while students of the first or second year can take part only if invited as companions from the latter.
For the Prom it is usually boys who invite girls in a fun and original way. At the ball you can arrive in a rented limousine for the occasion, and you can wear the tuxedo for boys (possibly paired with tie or papillon to the girl's dress), and elegant long dress for girls. Also for the Prom there is a corsage (flowers on the wrist for girls) and a boutonnerie (jacket flowers) for him, all combined with her dress.
The hall where the end-of-year dance is held is carefully decorated in every detail and the evening ends (as in any self-respecting American film) with the election of the King and the Queen of Dance.
