Listening

In the summer between Grade 7 and 8, me and a couple of friends got a few joints from one of my brothers friends. We went to the park and bravely, handed around the joint, coughing our guts out and feeling like we were really bad. The feeling of light headed giggling and a hunger we later learned was called the munchies came over us. This was 1973 and Led Zeppelin had just put out the album "Houses of the holy", which sounded incredible after the munchies had been taken care of. Grade 8 was a whole new world, smoking cigarettes and marihuana was the new past time and girls of course. I had a little fort in the back yard and a transistor radio where i could hide and listen to either CFUN of CKLG, going back and forth depending on what was playing.I had a little cassette player, my first cassettes were , The Rolling Stones "Goats head soup"and Deep Purples "Machine head. Playing my Bass along with the records in the living room, driving my parents crazy with my thumping amplifier.I had learned a lot that year, but not much of it was in the class room. I still have my report card of that year. One of the teachers comments was "Failure probable, does not listen in class"
