Extreme Lady Angler: Hannah Anderson 😁🏆

Today I would like to focus on what I do best, promoting women in angling!

This article was one of my features on Extreme Fishing Africa to get this young Angler in the spot light. Ladies are so talented yet they almost never acknowledged in a male dominated sport. We are changing that!

This lovely young lass is a record holder and one heck of a angler!
It's a privilege to feature you Hannah!

Brief fishing history in her own words:

My love for fishing was always there, but the bug really hit in May 2015 and soon thereafter my Dad purchased his own boat. Most weekends and definitely during the holidays were spent on the water with a rod in our hands and amongst like-minded friends. Both my brother Rorke and I love fishing and we started to take part in club competitions and then tried our hand in the more competitive comps. I took part in a number of KZN Nationals and have received both my Junior KZN colours and Junior SADSA colours. We steadily improved in our knowledge and skill and are honoured to have been taught, fished with and spent time with some of the best anglers in South Africa.

As a senior angler now, I have managed to gain my Snr KZN colours and was ready to take part in another Nationals in April this year, before Covid put a hold on this. We have not heard when it will be set down again, but it sadly has been a dry spell of late, on the water for me. I cannot wait to get back out on the bobbing surf and catch some fish, whilst chatting all things related.

A major angling highlight for me was during the Warnadoone Bottomfish Inter-Zonals in September 2016. I was placed on the boat, Pole Dancer with Troy Cauvin as our skipper. This was a great day as Uncle Troy put us onto the fish and I managed to hook and boat an awesome Black Musselcracker. It was a great catch and my fish weighed in at 24.00kgs. I was awarded with the South African Junior female record for heaviest fish of a species in an approved line class category (10kg) and the All African record.

Over the years we have been very blessed to holiday at a number of sea side places and some of my favourite areas to fish are at Pennington and in the St Lucia area. I have had some decent catches and loads of fun. What a wonderful sport and hobby.

All round, I cannot think of a better family sport and I am so grateful that my family is involved and supportive. In fact, there are so many people - from different corners who have been wonderful. I am very appreciative of all the help and advice and the amazing opportunities that I have had along the way.
