Computers Are Not What You Think

in science •  7 years ago

Bill Gates knew it and he still sold computers to the world.  He led us all to believe that computers are a secure platform when he knew full well that there was a huge back-door into every single one of them.  And no matter how many security updates you download it will never solve the issue.  Pay close attention to what he says about radios half way through this 5 minute video (he briefly mentions it and then quickly changes the subject).

Ever since the 1970's it's been known that computers emit radio waves which can be decoded back into the original data.  It was one of the things that inspired Bill Gates to become interested in computers.  Back then there weren't really any good ways of working with computers, there were no monitors and no mice etc.  But one day in the 70's someone found out they could get their AM radio to play music by flipping switches on their Altair 8800 computer.  It was a revolutionary new way of using a computer.

The radio waves that come out of computers can be decoded by a process called "Van Eck Phreaking".  Every image on your computer monitor can be picked up remotely by radio waves.  And ordinary computer malware can be made to broadcast the contents of your hard drives on the open airwaves for anyone to receive.  Click here for a link to more information about Van Eck Phreaking.  And here is a website that claims to be able to broadcast music to your AM radio from your computer, it doesn't work with all computers but it's been shown to work with some.

The good news that most people talk about is that these radio waves can only travel a couple of meters at the most.  Anything beyond 1 or 2 meters and the signal is too weak to decode.  The bad news is that it's just a rumor, the truth is that radio waves travel farther than 2 meters unless they're blocked by something.  But a radio with the right kind of antenna can pick up these computer signals from a much greater distance.

Wow I never knew that. Very interesting. I'm not letting anyone sit next to my laptop now.

this is so true..

My abacus ain't got no back door.
And uses zero watts :)

Nice bro.

love it!! lmao

ahahahaha ;)

Every piece of technology emits radio waves. It is only a matter of figuring out the frequency and amplitude modulation of those waves, for us to be to be able to translate in to information.

For instance, I have a powerful condenser microphone, and I often hear faint sounds of the radio when recording. This is because my microphone is translating the audio in to a wave, while a radio station is simultaneously sending out a wave of the same frequency.

While this is scary to some, there is simply too much overlap for someone to accurately translate these frequencies effectively. So if someone is trying to steal your information they are more than likely just getting a lot of static.

Also, while radio waves cannot be encrypted themselves, the information stored on them can be encrypted. Like wifi.

Great post! Good luck)

Amazing how we have gone from this to quantum computing in like no time flat. Thanks for the insight and your previous up vote!

Very interesting article. This phenomenon is used for example by governments to receive data from computers, that cant be accessed via networks.

Well, I'm TRYING to re-steem. The option isn't there though. ???

Post a good friend,
Success is always friend.

waoo amazing article love it

Absolutely re-steeming! Excellent info.!!!!!

its true science I agree to him.

the other side of the computer, intelligent thinking and enlightening writing ..

Question: Can anything be done about this?

Use an offline desktop PC without speakers or a mic. Could be a start... :)

An inspiration for all of us who think they cannot do anything in life.. Just be positive and go for destiny , luck will come behind you ..

computers are just a gateway to the porn highway ;)

WOW! Wake up people! This post is educational for anyone wanting to know the truth. FANTASTIC post @anomaly! Peace.

ofcourse its really important @anomaly

computers have changed the world and will change it more and more! and that's a good thing

That's good news ^^

Didn't know any of that

Well computers are so important to the nation

Thx~^^
Interesting

nice post.👍

without technology Life is nothing

This is so true, but the fact still remains that everything that has advantages must have disadvantages too.
So it depends on usage

informative post my friend! ",

thank you also for always upvoting my post.

Totally agree

Great analysis of the situation here. Thanks for your work. Hopefully people will begin waking up to what we have around us. Looking around though, I am not holding out hope for that happening.

Edit to add - thanks for this, I just spent the last half hour or so downloading more documentaries and such on early computers. Thanks for spurring that interest again.

this is 100 % authentic.

Hi, @anomaly!
First of all I want to tell you that I like the saying on your profile: "The distance between your dreams and reality is called action."
Secondly, I have to admit that I am not a technologist person, but still I use the computer. So what you say in your post is very interesting and frightening in the same time. Should we stop using the computers, anymore? ;) ha,ha...

good post, I like your post ..

Very good information about the advancement of computer technology, now everyone in the world is using computers to work

The video on Tempest is very interesting.
Just for the record, the Tempest was available 25 years ago. To acquire it, you needed clearance from the Americans, and the manufacturer would need an end user certificate issued by the Americans for you to purchase. Generally, only selected governments were issued these end user certificates to acquire Tempest. Nothing new in the "hacking world".
The Americans have been using for at least 40 years, considered as "armament".

Nice post..

Very interesting.I never thought about hacking in this way.

Super freaky! Thanks for sharing.
Being aware of these kind of dangers (although they are super cool), is something we need today.

Everything about a computer can be decoded in some sort of fashion. Nothing is totally secure. With a man in the middle attack someone can sit outside your home with a Pringle potato chip can laced in aluminum and use it as a antenna to pick up your computer signals. This person can sit between you and your bank while you are doing banking and collect all of your data.

That's it - I'm off to build a faraday cage around my home office!

This reminds me of Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. It's been a long time since I read it but there was a scene where the hero was in prison and given a laptop to use. And then he realized that the wardens on the other side of the wall could pick up everything he was typing.

🕵️ Well that's just great!

Excellent article, and you read my mind as well. I used to mess around a lot with short-wave radios, and figured a way how to unscramble TV images when the "first" cable patent came out back in the early 80's (this was ONTV, and I believe it was just a test prototype model that was to slowly introduce the mass public to the option viewing televised programs via from a Ethernet Feed), I'll probably do an article on ONTV, to put something on the minds of cable users -- just for kicks :D

As a kid I knew the frequency ranges for HF, VHF, and UHF.

One of my favorite channels to watch was Channel 32 WFLD-TV Chicago, and with a short wave radio, I was able to find a set frequency simply by tuning the channel in on Channel 31, but the images who show only in black and white with a slight bit of snow haze (but still view worthy).

I learn the same trick using the shortwave radio on Channel 44 WSNS-TV, which was the frequency gateway to yank in the ONTV cable signal. I'm going to do that article on this one, you got me REALLY thinking on it LOL.

Thanks! :D

Very interesting. It doesn't freak me out. I'm trusting in God, that things will go well in my life, and if they don't go as well as I've planned, God will give me the strength and wisdom to get through it.

That being said, if I see a dude outside my window with an antenna, I may run out after him or call the cops. :) Upvoted. Have a blessed day!

good writing mr @anomaly

Thanks for sharing with us this history news about computers @anomaly! cheers

Hard to imagine anything without computers nowadays.

Back then it was hard to imagine everything will work with computers as well. :D

Right

thanks for upvoted me. i am follwoing you..

Thank vote me🙏

@anomaly new follower and upvote from me :) tattooist / crypto enthusiast mainly these days lol, exciting times ahead with electroneum!

very interesting about monitor waves , is there anything you can do besides shut it off? I wonder how long the waves can emit after the monitor is off?

I learn something interesting everyday on steemit thanks to peeps like you

But nowdays we don't have these CRT monitors anymore.
And I really wonder if the modern LCD screens emit these kind of radiowaves as well... I doubt it, completely different technique.

But I really liked to see Bill Gates telling us how he started off simple, later to become the richest man on the planet, or the second richest now , or whatever..

I like this post

I always knew Bill Gates was a turd so thos is no surprise to me. What we do now is each community build their own I.S.P. & use O.S. that do not have back doors for th e state to exploit. Many communities are already doing this...just look it up.

Reminds me of BadBios some years ago, where infection and data transfer was supposed to be realized with laptop mics and speakers, sending out impulses humans can't hear... The so called air gap. It not that big deal for home users, but in an office, airport, starbucks... Good luck that's all just conspiracy, isn't it? *shiver

Cool

You would imagine that if the cables, plugs and sockets were shielded there would be no leaking of the signal.

Oh...Great post by the way.

Thanks buddy to share that. Maximum of people use computer but everybody can't realize that today per second billion of data transfer one side to anther. I know that thanks to remind me.
