Maybe this unnamed source is just the government purposefully spreading misinformation. Maybe we wanted our enemies to think it failed when it really didn't. Maybe this was just a way to dodge congressional oversight.

    I don't usually like to get to conspiratorial without access to some decent information, but this was totally my first thought as well. It feels like an intentional smokescreen. Just through up some misinformation/misdirection and watch it spread lol.
