Soda: the fast-food industry that releases the hunger hormone

The refrigerant was created in 1676, but the current configuration, with mixed water and gas, only appeared in early 1886. And soon the soda would fall in the taste of the population and its consumption would explode. Today, it integrates a diet that worries countries in every corner of the world. With large amounts of sugar, the refrigerant is associated with increased obesity. But do fizzy drinks, like soda, get fatter?

Recent research at Birzeit University in the West Bank and similar tests commissioned by the BBC state that they do. Carbon dioxide, an indispensable ingredient in the composition of the refrigerant, causes cells to release the hunger hormone, ghrelin, and naturally it makes you feel hungry.

In analyzing these results, Professor Rosa Wanda Diez Garcia, from the Nutrition course of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto, USP (FMRP), says that the studies point to other problems, in addition to increased hunger, such as decalcification of tooth enamel , increased risk of pancreatic cancer, even prostate, heart disease, increased diabetes, risk of liver damage, Alzheimer's risk and even interferes in the behavior issue. According to the professor, the high sugar content modifies the brain mechanism, increasing hyperactivity and aggressiveness.
