Table (Stem) cells stop multiple sclerosis

Stem cell therapy gives hope to patients suffering from multiple sclerosis. The treating physicians called this method the largest breakthrough in the fight against the disease, which can in a few years put the person in a wheelchair.

Practitioners in neurology praised the new stem cell therapy , which was used for the experimental treatment of multiple sclerosis . This therapy not only stops the development of the disease, but in some cases it helps to improve symptoms. The international study also demonstrated that stem cell transplantation can reduce the degree of disability of multiple sclerosis victims. This disease attacks the myelin sheath of nerves in the brain and spine, it affects the immune system, leading to fatigue, muscle problems and mobility, and a host of other severe symptoms.

Some experts believe that stem cell therapy can, as they say, change the rules of the game in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. This technique involves rebooting the patient's immune system with cancer drugs, and then restoring immunity by stem cell transplantation. 36-year-old Louise Willett from the English Rotherham was able to get rid of the symptoms of multiple sclerosis for the first time after she was diagnosed with this illness in 2010. The woman herself calls the results obtained by a miracle.

The study involved more than 100 patients from hospitals in Chicago, Sheffield, Stockholm and Sao Paulo, who were treated with either hematopoietic stem cells or traditional medicines. All suffered from relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, in which the attacks of the disease alternate with periods of prolonged remission. In the group on stem cells, after one year from the moment of injection, only one patient experienced an exacerbation. Three years later, this technique did not work for only three patients. In a group of standard drugs, 39 out of 50 patients experienced relapse within a year, and in a three-year period, 60% of patients showed no response to drugs.
