Systems: The science of how everything is connected

in science •  7 years ago  (edited)

Systems are the bases of what everything works on, depending of their type they can range from how our bodies work to how a product gets made, or from understanding how life on earth is able to sustain itself to the impact a caterpillar can have on the ecosystem. It takes just simple knowledge of the topic to be able to see clearly how everything is interlaced in a common and bigger goal.

A system is characterized for having different parts, performing different singular and unique activities, which are connected to each other in order to accomplish a greater goal. Otherwise, if the parts aren't linked in any way shape or form but they still work for a common goal, the phenomenon is known as a "conglomerate".

Just from that you can start seeing the world from a systemic point of view, associating how things are connected to each other in order to make something. For example, from a mechanical perspective,  your computer monitor is connected to a power outlet that supplies energy to it so it can function and as well to your PC with the objective of displaying images to the user, and on a similar manner your respiratory system inhales air from the environment, takes in the oxygen and exhales out the carbon dioxide so you can stay alive.

And like this you can study pretty much everything that happens anywhere in the universe and even theoretically improve their processes, it just takes the right perspective and a little imagination to do so. Go out there and encourage yourself to analyze everyday activities and try to figure out how they work as a System.
