Babies protect their mother in the womb by sending stem cells to help repair a damaged organ. For example, mothers who develop heart weaknesses either during or after the pregnancy recover without any medical help or interference. Scientists first discovered this with pregnant mice and found fluorescent cells in the damaged heart tissue had repaired by changing into new heart cells including blood vessel cells.
