ChromaChron - measuring time using distance, not seconds

in science •  7 years ago

Observe the above sketch. I'm trying to conceptualize a way of measuring time without using seconds. In a previous post I showed how to measure temperature using ratio, rather than Celsius or Fahrenheit. In this example I'm also measuring by ratio, by sectioning off a generalize area for each color, and designating each color with a fixed size, based on the observable visible light spectrum.

This example uses only distance. Time IS distance. The speed of light is 299 792 458 meters of travel distance in the span of 1 second. So if we divide that by our ratio. We can use red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, but I chose to only use red in this example.

Many of us conceptualize time as an empty increment of void or "nothingness" that gets filled up with "somethingness" upon the next increment. But in this example time IS distance itself. We are conditioned to use seconds to measure time and it's very hard to wrap our heads around alternative mechanisms to measure and calculate time. My poet friend suggest that we name this colored increment for measuring time, a Chromachron. How long did it take? 20,000 yellow Chromachrons.

Not a bad idea. Rare example of worthy content on steemit instead of usual garbage that is being posted here.

But it will not get through.
It will lose to fu**in' photos of meals and travels of disgusting pleb shitskin morons.
Sad, isnt it?

What could be acual use of this measurement system tho?
Its good for a precise measurements, but in daily use we dont really use nanoseconds.
Still smart idea anyway.

On this part:

Time IS distance

Not really. Some physicist theoretize time could be motion(its not excatly the same as distance), but thats not a proven idea.

Hi Laserade, thanks for the feedback. Of what use is this? Very good question. Maybe it has no use but I think worth exploring and sharing. Please check out my page where I share more knowledge. Yes I can relate to how sad and crappy Steemit has become. I like it for the immutability, that my posts in the future can be found and never deleted.
