A systematic review of omega-3 fatty acid health related studies has shown supplements (Fish oil) have little benefit on heart issues, stroke, and death. Omega-3 fatty acids involved with human physiology are α-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Mammals are unable to synthesize omega-3 fatty acids, but obtained in a regular diet. Fish oil is promoted as a protective supplement for heart health despite any significant evidence. The fish oil industry brings roughly 2.3 billion USD per year and is likely to increase. The study published in the Cochrane library reviewed seventy-nine randomized trials

Now I don't feel so bad for not finishing my bottle of Omega-3 capsules.

I always suspected this answer actually.

Maybe the purported benefits are due to people's dietary habits surrounding omega-3.

If you eat a lot of fish that means you are eating fewer sugars and carbs and this might make your overall health better.

It can help you sleep better, It can soothe your skin, It can lower your blood pressure, It can boost your memory

Yet multiple studies say otherwise. Studies over anecdotes, anyday.

Interesting information! I use Omega 3s for joint lubrication, dry eyes, and venous support. I have found that Flax seed Omega 3s work a lot better for me, although they are a little higher.

The slight increase in heart health (below 3% in this study) is likely from the venous support. Using Omega 3s help the tubing in the circulatory system, (with the flax seed oil seeming to work better long term) helps reduce the blood pressure by making the vessels more elastic. This lower BP, would reduce the load on the heart, and is the likely source of the slight improvement.

This Meta Analysis of multiple studies is done very professionally, and I would trust the results! Very good information, Thank You! :)
