The blue moon is a full moon where the positions of the Sun, Earth, and Moon are on an equal footing. While the Moon is blood red due to the mixing of sunlight by the Earth's atmosphere. The blue light is absorbed by the gases in the Earth's atmosphere, while the red light is escaped by the atmosphere so that the Moon appears red like blood.
