Google's Co-Founder Backs Kitty Hawk Flyer

in science •  8 years ago  (edited)

A new all-electric flying car, the Kitty Hawk Flyer, is backed by Google's co-founder Larry Page.

The flying vehicle was just recently unveiled and it's expected to launch for sale later this year. The price for the vehicle hasn't been revealed yet, that won't come until later.

The vehicle is an ultralight aircraft and so those who want to operate them don't need to have a pilot's license in order to do so. Kitty Hawk has already been offering a priority waiting list to folks who want to sign-up for a $100 3-year membership. From that they would also get a $2000 discount on the retail price of the vehicle when it gets released.

The recently unveiled Kitty Hawk Flyer is just said to be one of several prototypes for the start-up.

Kitty Hawk has a mission and that's to make the dream of personal flight one of reality. They are pressing forward with developing aircraft that are safe, fun, and easy-to-use. The recently unveiled model is one that has already been tested and deemed legal to operate in the U.S. in areas that are uncongested under FAA regulations pertaining to Ultralight aircraft.

The first one that they designed, seen in the test flight video above, was specifically designed to be flown over water. And as mentioned above, they are already working on other designs.

Whether it's new self-driving vehicles and/or flying cars and taxis, it's clear that the transportation landscape is quickly changing and might look much different in just a few years to come.

@creatr

LOL

sumptuously!
Resteemed :)

I really don't know how you put out so many good posts a day. I definitely look up to you for your work ethic, it is really good.

man that is really nice of you to say, thank you!

:)

It is a pleasure, I have tried putting up more than one post a day before and it drained me. Even putting one post up everyday is hard, as some days I don't know what to write about. I know that consistency pays off in the end so keep it up :D

I really enjoy what I write about so it sure is fun:)

Brilliant. I,d love one . Lets see how much they cost though.

Just checked. They go on sale at the end of the year but they are not revealing the price

That's awesome!

This is so cool! No more quiet days at the lake :))

it is usually not that quiet at the lakes I frequent lol what with the kids, other families, boats, sea-doos and so on..

I imagine those feelings! Wow! Bravo for your great post!

Now I can see these are going t be all over our lake! I know my son will want one!

It is great news. But it is only for those people who have huge money power.

not really? it will likely get cheaper over time.. just like cell phones, computers and other technology has throughout the years :)

You'r right.

Wow! very interested
if i get it, one free. :D

haha! wouldn't that be nice:)

This and the Juicero hilarity in the same week. Silicon Valley is rapidly descending into self parody.

Juicero ? hadn't heard about it.. thanks for letting me know! I'll wait until the price comes down a bit but I sure wouldn't mind a cold pressed juicer! 👍

just seeing now you have to buy their bags of veggies for it? lol perhaps not then

I really enjoy personal alternative human transport, the more freedom with the less hassle, the better!

Hi @doitvoluntarily
Nice post
What will the range be and how high will they be able to fly.
I would love one, to play with, but I don't think it will be practical for commuting. Those propellers could hurt pedestrians. (I suppose that is why it is designed to be used over water)

i hope this gets auto-pilot. Have you seen the ehang news from last year?

I believe this is a japanese made single person electric helicopter which is battery powered and costs well into 6 figures and flies for about 30 minutes. :-)

I'm not sure but I thought ehang is from China

possibly...I saw a short video months ago about it...thought it was from Japan but could be wrong

Excellent post! I like your work My friend
