Do I have your attention?
Faster than light travels refer to the possibility currently being researched of having the ability to travel faster than the speed of light.
The speed of light currently is around 299 792 458 m / s according to a google search, but is it even possible to go any faster than that with the current level of technology we have?
Shall we "drive" into the future
There has been no official report of a successful test yet. From warp drives to blink drives (which is referred to sometimes as a micro warp drive) to jump drive, this drives are yet to give us a drive in the right direction.
The jump drive
This of course is purely theoretical as there is no official document backing it's existence. The cool thing about this drive is the it has piqued the interest of of many scientists as a possibility of space travel, although like I rightly stated, it is purely theoretical.
Unlike most other means being explored, little is known about this as most of the concept surrounding the theories on this drive are movie based, which makes room for a lot of faults in the possible exploration for it's creation.
Based on the little information I have, this drive is intended to favor short distance travel in space.
Please do not mistake my short distance in space to mean the equivalent of a trip from Chicago to NEW York. In space travels, a trip from Earth to Mars is considered a short distance as compared to a trip from Earth to let's say outside our solar system.
So going by that, this will require multiple "driving" to successfully get over long distances. The advantage of this might mean the amount of energy needed to achieve a jump might be relatively small as compared to long distances. But then again, it is not an absolute science, we might just discover the energy needed to make such a jump will be enough to level a solar system.
The Warp drive
The first useful information on this topic was from a professor by the name of Miguel Alcubierre who actually theorized the possibilities of negative energy is space travelling.
Of course it is now known as the warp drives, but it derives most of it's research from Alcubierre's research.
Currently, N.A.S.A is working on a prototype of a spaceship that can work effectively using a warp drive for possible space/interstellar travels.
This is still in research stage and should it be achieved, will be revolutionary in the course of space travelling. How it is supposed to work is similar to a jump drive, but I cannot commit a scientific blunder by giving an exact detail of if it will travel longer distances than the jump drive or not (as there are so many discussions for and against it).
But one thing is worthy of note, it will require a greater amount of energy than a jump drive or at least according to what I read, and this is one aspect which still scares scientist.
The amount of energy required to maintain such a field and coupled with the fact that one miscalculation could spell doom as you could be catapulted out of reality which is one possibility, or you could blow up your entire planet upon launch.
Permit my use of words, I might have exaggerated a bit (or maybe not), but what I also found out is that scientists have conducted research to prove that Earth and it's neighbors will be safe if this technology eventually comes to fruition.
How it is intended to is quite simple, in my own words and I hope I get it right, it will create a field or a bubble to physicists with a lot of negative energy, which alternates the distance between the arrival and departure point without the ship actually moving inside the bubble.
Sounds strange right? The drive creates a shortcut for you through space, but the ship should be able to withstand the stress of such a trip.
The problems with this drive as an option after I did some digging some digging is that we start to hear about things like the Hawkings radiation effect a lot which is also theorized, and also something called the Finazi effect. I really won't lie as I don't know much about them, but from the little I got from research, I realized some potential problems will be:
- Energy requirement
- The Hawkings radiation effect
- White holes and black holes
- Choosing a proper space point for deceleration without blowing things up.
- Problems associated with the creation and deletion of space particles
Now for this to work, we need to understand that nothing in space moves faster than the speed of light...save for space itself and the warp drive functions on exploiting this weakness.
What do you feel? share your corrections as I am not a physicist, thoughts and general comments

Well i love this, and i am happy that scientists are making progress, the last theory i heard on space travel was that it is possible to bend space like a sheet of paper and create a worm hole that will serve as a shortcut, to a distant place....

Awesome piece. Faster than light travels are theoretically possible now. With the the hypothetical discovery of Tachyon particles, this could revolutionize F.T.L

I'm hearing about this for the first time. Faster Than Light Travels, is 299 792 458 m/s and that's super fast so having anything faster than that is awesome...
Applaudise....👏👏👏👏
