If we study the theory of evolution well, we discover that unused organs degenerate. By degeneration, we mean that the level of effectiveness of such body part or organ decreases to the point where by it's function either becomes limited or unknown probably in the future.
At some point the appendix became an example of such with no indication pointing to it's specific core function. At some point, it was believed it served some function, but along the way, either due to evolution or other factors, it became practically useless.
The funniest of all is the extra teeth grown known as the wisdom teeth, it was also once believed that it also served a function, but not anymore.
The aim of this write up is not centered around teeth and appendix, but a correlation between factors which can trigger the loss of once useful body parts or organs.
Is automation/AI supporting or destroying evolution
Automation is a process whereby day to day activities are controlled by machines or machinery. As good as it sounds, is it really a good idea to transfer everything to machines knowing fully well that when we do not use body parts, it's function starts to diminish.
A critical example is that of individuals into body building, the person builds muscles (densely packed elongated cells) around the exercise targeted areas. But as soon as the person stops building, the muscles start to shrink over time. The reason is simply because unused organs degenerate
Now imagine a person who relies on automation, a door that opens by itself and closes similarly, a house with devices to pump water, an interactive artificial intelligence that practically does everything for you, how do you really expect to grow smarter when a computer does it all for you?
I can bet Einstein, Faraday, Tesla, Newton and so many other great names depended on constantly building their minds to remain sharp and active, imagine if they allowed an artificial intelligence do all the job?
Naturally the concept is good, but with fully automation, what then is the future for mankind?
I remember a time when a text book sharpened the mind, now everyone thing can be easily solved with one computer algorithm or it's likes or the other and the aim of even sharpening the mind is diminishing.
Think am lying, the number of individuals who have had to result to medicated glasses have been on the increase in recent times and a factor is staring at screens.
According to this chart, the number of recommended glasses in the United States have greatly increased in recent years and like I said, a major factor is screens.
Before the age of industrialization, people walked, ate good food and lived longer because that was a healthy way of living, now, people simply eat fast food, are conveyed in vehicles everywhere and hardly exercise and so life expectancy started dwindling. Body nutrients easily obtained in healthy foods have to be synthesized in capsules and diseases with weird names are being diagnosed anyhow.
Someone said an AI flawed a lot of people at chess and I wondered, how do you expect it not to when it basically reads it's own texts books and we rely on machines for everything.
I believe we can fix this and humans won't go extinct.

Amazing article, that was more like a wrap up of how biological evolution got it's advancement and relating it with artificial intelligence how we may accomplish defining our own kind of evolution.
I was just talking around this topic about how scientists put and turn a worm brain into a robot.
You may want to read it here.

This is so true.
Funny enough we're all guilty of this.
Nature doesn't respect anyone and evolution goes inline with how beings evolves and do things, how they eat, talk, work, fight and survive. It follows our instinct.
Evolution toed the line of making us better or adapting to a particular thing. But now that humans seems to trust more on tech for basic things, I think evolutionary, there's a way nature will package us and make us adapt to it too without harm. It always happens and I think it'll be good.
Let's watch out.
My 2 cents.
Thanks @ehiboss for this well researched articles.
I'll be surfing online tomorrow for some research articles and starts on this topic to broaden my knowledge.

Some of the world's populace fear AI and automation as something that would be detrimental to man. But have they considered the usefulness of it? Yeah, there might be job losses, but others could be created in the same stead. We can only embrace change or miss the train.

I wish I have more than the upvote I just gave
This work is good research
Little review on it (my opinion tho)
Automation can be defined as the technology by which a process or procedure is performed without human assistance of any such gotten from the work automatic.
And also can equally say, Automation or automatic control, is the use of various control systems for operating equipment such as machinery, processes in factories, boilers and heat treating ovens, switching on telephone networks, steering and stabilization of ships, aircraft and other applications and vehicles with minimal or reduced human intervention, with some processes have been completely automated.
From what you asked at @ehiboss
Actually there are things automation can't work for.. From my little studies in mechatronics engineering when I did robotics automation has limitations and human help is still needed taking for example the CNC lathe machine.. There is manual and automatic but the automatic lathe which is CNC need humans to ignite the perfect operation.. As good as automation is they don't have mind of their own.
Do you know without those text books you cannot understand principle behind the algorithm.. Example is solving quadratic equation on MATLAB... it save stress no doubt but what if you don't know the principles behind it like know the formular because from the formular you can know the path you will follow to achieve the answer to that question
Lemme stop here
I get your point about automations but as a Beng holder of mechanical engineering and lover of robotics I can tell you automation still needs the human mind to function effectively.

Well said @ehiboss! Issues like these have arised in the past and all people say is the world is advancing, the world is becoming a global village.. yes! But we are getting it back like it or not as you explained.
Reason our forefathers lived alot longer then!
We really have to take this seriously or soon, humans may become almost useless!

There is plenty to figure out with regard to how technology is reshaping the economy without looking to the far distant future. The question isn’t whether the machines are coming they are already here, and have been for a long time.

I really don't believe AI will cost us our intelligence or bodily functions. Evolution don't take place in a day, it takes years. If man had evolved, that means we needed to change from a state where we were lower than what we are now. Machines will never take over. And if AI mean another evolution, then I believe the next evolving set of humans will be supper and harness more of the ability we can not use now.
It shouldn't be a bad thing. If the Java man living in the cave could evolve to this present age man living in houses, there should not be a cause for alarm.

Spot on, Ehiboss. AI might rather kill us than save us.

There is no positivity without it's negative side effect. Our technology advancement has endanger most species in their biological component. Example is felling down of trees inother to make basic need thereby causing deforestation and sending animal species away from their abode.
In other to increase efficiency we create more machine, whereby the rate of unemployment increase and crime rate also.
I pray one day this machine won't malfunction to our detriment.

Awesome post @ehiboss ....i just read an article about the first robot in the world (named Sophia) to get a country's citizenship (Saudi Arabia). Yes, AI has helped the world improve, from robotics to auto correct features on phones, but it should not be forgotten that its been predicted by prominent AI proponents such as Elon Musk and Stephen Hawkins that AI will spell doom on the human race if not properly controlled. I cant imagine a robot getting a country's citizenship when there are millions of humans being denied citizenship. If the development of AI is not controlled, i beleive humans may lose their intelligence to these machines, even though, humans created them. If care is not taken, a war will break out between machines and humans and this may lead to the extinction of the human race if control measures are not put in place on AI. I think i share your views on AI and human intelligence...thank you for the post....

Interesting topic you have here Daniel. It is also a very controversial one. I must say however, that on the long run, if properly handled, mankind stands to gain following this direction.
