Unveiling the world's largest plane by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen

in science •  8 years ago

On Wednesday 31.05.2017, Microsoft co founder unveiled what is now being called the world's largest aircraft.
It boasts of having six boeing 747 engines with a wingspan of roughly 384-385 feet which by far is the longest wingspan known.
It was designed by Scaled composites,one of Allen's partner at Stratolaunch Systems, which coincidentally is owned by Paul Allen's firm.
The design of a Stratolaunch is done to carry rockets between te fuselages.
The project's cost as at 2011 was initially estimated at around $300million, though it is expected for the figures to have been more than that right now.
At a certain altitude, the plane drops the launch vehicle, subsequently firing its boosters and launching into space from the air.

With the plane having an estimated weight of around 500,000 pounds without any cargo.
The design was meant to carry a maximum takeoff weight of around 1.3million pounds.
The aircraft is being kept at a hangar in California.
Movement is easier for the aircraft with the 28 wheels design and being powered by the boeing 747 engines makes it cooler

Wouldn't this Plane be a little confusing for the Pilot to fly...???
Which side of the Plane would he fly from...???
@pocketechange

I believe you meant cockpits? its dual cockpits

No... I meant what I said... And after taking another look,
I think the Tail section should be connected...
@pocketechange

lol...I believe the pilots to fly this baby will be properly trained

That was exactly what I was thinking when I first saw it, the torsion forces must be creating enormous stress on the middle wing section. The concept as such is nothing new, they had planes like that (smaller of course) in WW2 already. But they were always joined at the tail.
Well, lets hope they know what they are doing...

how do you make little animations asking to upvote. by the way I upvoted and resteemed

You either download gifs or design...Thank you

What a magnificent aircraft. I will give anything to be on it's flight....

perhaps, our generation might do better

We are working on that, ain't we?😊

Lol

Is the purpose of such a large plane known?

Yes actually....satelite launch

Thanks for the answer (didn't have had the time to google it myself :p )
