Historical (and some Hysterical) Flat Earth Newspaper Articles (#2) gathered by Dean Hawk

in science •  7 years ago

This is the second in a series of old newspaper articles unearthed by Dean Hawk youtube channel. Dean discovered these gems after first hearing about flat earth. He went to his local library to research and found over a hundred articles and passed them on to be read aloud and shared. Fascinating to see how the globe theory was challenged and ridiculed and disbelieved by people right up until very recently.

This article (2) was from The Hampshire Telegraph, (UK?) Saturday 28th March 1896.
This one is very funny, it describes a welcome flat earth lecture in Landport from a Mr. Ebenezer Breach, a rowdy and lively audience cheering and demonstrating their love for his efforts. It mentions how there was a riot at the previous lecture in Portsmouth, AND someone came along this evening and let off some chemical stench (like rotten eggs- or maybe potatoes??? ; ) which made some of the audience have to get up and leave.
