Strongest Solar Flare in a Decade And an Earlier Coronal Mass Ejection May Bring Northern Lights to Your Backyard Tonight

in science •  7 years ago

The sun let loose two massive X-class flares on 6 September 2017 disrupting GPS and radio signals. Both of the X-class flares, the most intense category of flares, were detected by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. These are the strongest

An M5-class flare on 4 September 2017 shot outs a coronal mass ejection (CME) that will reach our skies tonight, 6 September 2017, creating incredible auroras.

These auroras may be seen in lower latitudes than usual.

I wonder if we'll see anything here in Colorado...I'll be looking up at the sky tonight!

Hi Mike, it looks like the sunspot cycle chart stops a few years ago. Are we peaking right now and did it contribute to that horrible drought we just had?

Actually our sun is going through a grand minimum which could bring on a mini-ice age like it has done in the past.

Have a great week! The weekend is almost here!
Steem on,
Mike

I hope so, I don't have air conditioning.

a very rare natural phenomenon, can it affect the planet earth?
Not long ago, our satellite Telkom1 is gone from circulation. according to NASA, the satellite was out of its orbit and destroyed. Could it be the influence of this natural phenomenon?

Older satellites may be affected by this phenomenon but the newer satellites are better prepared. But there can still be an effect on all satellites from increased solar wind density caused by the CME arrival as well as electrical effects here on the ground.

Steem on,
Mike

Yes, thats true, satelit Telkom 1 is to old.
now, we have to divert around 10,000 earth transmitters to other satellites. almost all of our Bank and government networks were paralyzed.

Very good post.

You need to spend 2 minutes to watch this warning.

Thank you! I have been a long-time subscriber to Suspicious Observers YouTube channel. I guess the earth facing quiet is over.

Have a great week!

Oregon Washington border is kind of by the yellow line, but smoke from the forest fire might be in the way...or maybe it would alter the color like the way the sun appears red through the smokey haze.

The other day the sun and moon had a red haze to them here in Nebraska. While I did not smell smoke in the air, I assumed it was high level particulates from the fires out west blown here by the jet stream.

Have a great week and stay safe!!

Good job, thanks for this great article!

Keep up the good work!

Enjoy @nature.art🌼

Really good to know it. I have always been fascinated by these auroras and have matched many documentaries of them. The sad part is that India will not be witnessing it, it is very far away from the yellow line.

I remember seeing Auroras right over my head back in 2006 here in North Dakota.

I have not seen the Auroras yet. That is something I hope to correct one day. I will be looking North tonight.

Have a great week!

This is true ? About sunstroms ?

The sun is going through a grand minimum cycle. For a long time (about 12 years) there has been an "earth facing quiet effect". Meaning active sunspots on the sun suddenly go quiet when facing earth. However, all that changed recently with three coronal mass ejections from the sun.

Each day I watch video reports on solar activity and its interaction with planetary activity on the Suspicious Observers YouTube channel.

Have a great weekend!
