Scientific Discovery

While locals knew about the Araripe Manakins, the bird species avoided scientific discovery until 1996.

A Brazilian zoologist, in 1860 from the Rio de Janeiro natural history museum, collected 4,000 specimens of various species of wildlife in Chapada do Araripe during a biological survey. It is very possible that the collection of specimens included the Araripe Manakins. However, the expedition's collection was lost in a shipwreck while returning to Rio de Janeiro.

A German group of geologists, entomologists, and ornithologists swept through the area in 1930. Their species collection stored at the University of Freiburg was bombed during World War II. Thus, any evidence of the Araripe Manakin birds species was lost.

Endangered Species

The Araripe Manakin is on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of critically endangered species.

Conservation

The American Bird Conservancy funding established the Aquasis's Oasis Reserve with two land purchases in 2014 and 2016 to create a 300-acre reserve. The reserve protects the habitat and a breeding area for the Araripe Manakins.

It is a very beautiful bird, the male always with its beautiful colors, totally oblivious to the existence of this bird, it is very sad what happens with its habitat, it is not the only animal in danger, due to human beings.

very good article @ etcmike.

The Araripe Manakin is very beautiful with feathers that have some color, if the song is melodious once voice, thank you for sharing @etcmike.😊

Friend Mike, wonderful news, which in particular gives me great joy because Brazil is a neighboring country. The Araripe Manakin initially resembled a bird in my country called Cardenalito (Carduelis cucullata), but after reading the original article, I saw that they were different. I greatly appreciate the great scientific contribution you make to this community, and I enjoy your publications. All the best for you. Best regards

Thank you!

I am glad you took the time to read the original article. The article was packed full of more pictures and information about the Araripe Manakin and its habitat.

Have a great day!

It's a pleasure to read articles about these beautiful birds. What I regret most is the threats that represent the activities of man towards them. Pleased to learn about this little soldier named Araripe Manakin. Thanks for sharing friend, have a good day.

beautiful photography of birds man...👍

This looks stunning and beautiful in looks so cool to see this thanks for sharing : )
