We should be focusing on building a Moon based for launching missions to the outer solar system to get materials for building bigger and faster ships.
The Trappist system is 39.46 light years away. With a colony ship moving at just below light speed, we could get there by the 2nd or 3rd generation.

Alpha Centauri is only 4.367 light years away. It could be the first stop. Well, Proxima Centauri would be the first stop at 4.243 light years and having more planets of value.

The Alpha Centauri system should be one of the first targets, or any other destination within the range of ten light years. The spectrographs that are being released this year will give more potential candidates soon.
