Great post! A lot of insights! Would be interesting to know what is your personal opinion and what solutions dp you see besides the ones wrote about.
I think that often the people in the field or a particular company are not the ones to blame. The system and the rules by which the people play are the problem. When you create or people assemble a system with incentives that promote bad behavior you will see people in such system optimize for these incentives no matter what.
In these cases there is a thin line between what is right and what is not. In those moments I think that you have to stop and talk with the people of your laboratory, office or business of the subject. In places where this situation is not corrected people end up sick.
I work in a place like this today. You can feel a heavy, negative, and stressful air. I have colleagues who have left the doctorate with stress crises (dermatitis, insomnia and depression), I try to laugh, not cry LOL.
