Time Travel; the Wormhole Voyage

in science •  7 years ago  (edited)

Science fiction movies/ authors love the idea of the ability to travel back in time. Spock did it in the 2009 Star Trek movie.

Jodie Foster passed through a wormhole on the 1997 movie Contact.

The subject of wormholes is a popular one in science.

What is a wormhole?

In simple terms, it is a passageway that links two points in such a manner that there would be no space between them.

Using a balloon analogy, assume the balloon represent spacetime. On each opposite ends of the balloon are two dots. The wormhole is the shortest path that connects the two dots on either side of the balloon. This means someone can enter either side of the wormhole and transverse the universe without having to move through space.

This is a faster than light travel that eliminates the need to break the cosmic speed limit.

The two ends of this wormhole are not fixed in space but are quantum linked. Quantum entanglement specifies that two particles can be linked across any distance (including the diameter of the universe).

In order words, the two ends moving at different velocities could still meet each other at the other end, making a worm hole traveller to get to the other end.

Using the special relativity that states that the faster you travel through space, the slower the time.

What you need now is the technology to set up your wormholes. You could connect one end to the universe, and the other say to a spaceship. Flying through this wormhole at close to the speed of light in about twelve hours to and fro (6 hours each way) would set you back about ten years in Earth time! That was according to theoretical physicist Kip Thorne.

Birth of wormhole

Wormhole came into being due physicists Einstein and Nathan Rosen endless trial to find a unifying factor between electromagnetism and his theory of relativity. This messy detail in physics is known as singularities (the point where maths quantities become infinite). The idea that a particle could have its mass concentrated into an infinitely small point.

Einstein and Rosen published a paper in 1935 where they argued that the point could be extended into a path that leads to another location.

Going back to the balloon analogy for illustration, imagine a using a material to push the dots (which represents the singularity) from either side till they form a tube-shaped path known as Einstein-Rosen Bridge or more popularly as a wormhole.

Einstein in 1939 through his theory of relativity came up the idea of a black hole. The blackhole is a big singularity of which the reverse is a white hole. The blackhole is where the density and gravity reach infinity ensuring that nothing that enters can leave. The white hole is the reverse; nothing enters.

The theory of wormhole could fix the age old physics problem of faster-than-light travel as one could build a worm hole between separate universe and connect between the two.

The idea of wormhole is not just a smooth ride to utopia as it is not stable. It opens and closes up so fast that it is impossible for a subatomic particle to find a way through it.

But that does not end the idea as any physicist who knows his onion could always buttress the hole with exotic matter. Exotic matter has nehative pressure and density.

The idea of flying through the wormhole is like playing whack-a-mole;you kill one mole and another pops up. If you are able to travel through a wormhole, you would have to enter the blackhole and scientists believe this would spaghettify your body for enternity. Spaght=ettification is simply your body getting streched into spaghetti. Scary. I know.

A Journey Through the Wormhole

But what if all problems associated with travelling through a wormhole is fixed? What would the experience be like?

As you emerge from the black hole, you enter a wormhole where the flow of space turns around and you start to accelerate back outward. The wormhole ends at the entrance to a white hole, which is a time-reversed version of a black hole. Instead of falling inward, space falls outwards at a speed faster than light. Soon you experience another flash of radiation, this time containing a picture of the entire future of the universe.Source: Newscientist

The third flash of light takes you to your destination. That is an unbeatable experience of any transport system including the best VR games!

Are you ready to do a time travel? Just wait a moment let scientist fix some "minor" problems of the wormhole.

I have always fascinated about traveling through time or through a wormhole or black hole but i get some questions like; what happens within or, what if i do not get to the other side? Lol. Watching movies like "the flash also added to the list of uncertainties that lie within.... Well, i look forward to that day when all these would be possible (i wonder who would do it just like Einstein, that guy was a god of physics)

Thanks @greenrun for always educating us

It is a fascinating subject I must confess. Although some may appear as fantasy and pure theory, there are many useful ideas from it. Thank you.

Yeah, i honestly love the fact that concepts and phenomenals like this help keep the science world on her toes... Always looking for answers

Just to make living better. The scientists will always look for those answers that makes life better. Thank you.

yes,but it has it own side effect traveling through time.

In simple terms, it is a passageway that links two points in such a manner that there would be no space between them.

Ordinarily, in true life, can somebody like me make a wormhole? .
Can those theories really works?

Sure, I would do that for you. I just need about 3 billion dollars to finish the spacecraft I am building in my basement :)

That's how many Steem, now?

Regarding the scary spaghettification. I find the realization that our bodies are glorified sacks of meat most scary. They have no business being in outer space, which makes it all the more impressive that we do go.

Man just won't settle for less. We have conquered earth, now us the time to conquer other planets. Amazing. Thanks.

LOL spaghettify your body! I love the way you explained all this with an awesome sense of humour attached to it! I look forward to reading your other posts! Today is my first day on #steemit! Really kool community vibes! Thanks for sharing your wisdom! I will make sure to wear a protective outfit while travelling through wormholes so I don't turn into spaghetti! Hehe Keep me posted if you find a way!

Thanks for the compliment and welcome to steemit

Time travel is one thing that I look forward to science achieving; if they can pull a feat like time travel off then science will literally be able to do anything.

What is possible and not possible have a boundary which today appears to be blurred. Impossibility is nothing. Thanks

🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Keep busting my head with all these your interesting write ups.
Kudos bruv

Thanks wonderful steemian.

This post just took my nemory back lane when we used to argue in secondary school about the black hole, that everything dissapear when it gets there...
THAT ITS THE GATEWAY TO HEAVEN
But Blackhole and wormhole are the same thing?

No. Wormhole is the connection between two points while everything that enters blackhole disappears.

Well written @greenrun, all scientist and philosopher are still finding a way to explain time travel, to me i believe they will still be wondering about explaining travel, because it is a misery that no one can find a lasting solution to.

Thanks for reading this article. Time travel is a tough scientific problem.

time travelling always reading for that :D hehe thanks a lot for sharing an article on this interesting topic :)

Thanks blazing

Just reminded me of a certain spider man cartoon series I was watching where goblin was time traveling just so he could find the true identity of spider-man through something similar to this...

And came out like nothing happened ? Still yet to understand this time travel shenanigans or could the directors be playing with our (my son and I) intelligence that goblin could pass through this wormhole?🤔 Well it's a carton and lemme believe cos it's all fiction.

In cartoon movies, anything can happen :)
Just take it that goblins have super power to pass through that wormhole.

only time will tell. This is a long term dream not only for us but for all the scientists too but given how technology is advancing it might get sooner that we predict or at least something similar can made than happen! i wouldnt mine if i saw a machine that can teleport a piece of paper 2 meters away :P

I just need to go back to 2009 and buy 10 bitcoins :)
Yeah, while it may not pan out as the theory, we may get something similar.

it would be very interesting to time travel always something i wish to know more about thanks for sharing

Thank you @cutiepie

I would definitely call this a post of the day what a remarkable work you have done simply outstanding

As The Brain CEO, I think I'd be forced to accept this verdict :)

Good jop friend.
Upvote and resteem

Thanks

Yes you are welcome

I love this and the possibilities or the aftermath of wormholes, blackholes and whiteholes. Einstein was really ahead of his time.

The possibilities are endless.

Do wormholes really exist? Like blackholes, vortexes? I think not... Though it would be nice, but time travel is just the imagination of a scientific mind... Great write up still. Keep it up.

A lot of ideas are what we are now living in reality.

i think i learn something, "wormhole"

I guess we all do every day here.

most especially on steemit.

I couldn't help but agree more.

ok bro

Ive always facinated about space. Hope one day we get there

good post @bijoy123

Intelligent write up

Thank you

Nice

Thanks

Welcome,, vote me @greenrun

Postingan yang sangat bagus kawanku

time to travel to the places that haven't been explored yet finally a dream may come true

Let's go 😂😁

The best wormhole representation I have ever seen is the one in interstellar movie. My favorite movie too by the way

Wormholes are the favorite subject is every awesome science fiction.
