The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird

The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest jet airplane ever built. It was built in the 1960s, and first flew in 1964. Only 32 of such planes were ever built, out of which 12 were lost in tests and accidents. It is shaped as to avoid detection. In other words, it is a stealth aircraft. This plane was eventually retired in the late 1990s.

Nowadays, you can find these planes only in museums. During my recent visit to the Udvar-hazy center in Washington D.C, I had the privilege to see this sinister looking but incredible plane in person. Some of the pictures I took of it there are shown below.

Yes, nice plane indeed. But like I said, it was built in the 1960s. Still very futuristic looking though.

Too bad they retired this plane.
