YOU CAN USE TRASH TO POWER YOUR HOME!

So, I was doing a little research for this project I had to do on renewable energy. I stumbled across this article written on waste management world about a relatively new process called Microwave Plasma Gasification in which a power plant is generation power by turning Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), into clean energy by using plasma to dissociate the molecules at temperatures ranging from 4000-7000 Celsius. The gas was then fed, (through a stream process) into a gas turbine to create electricity, which was then used to power the microwaves that broke down the trash. Basically, the gas is superheated to temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun to 'dissociate the molecules' rather than burn the trash as in convential combustion.So basically the process was net energy positive meaning it could sustain itself and actaully create electricity for trash. In addition, the waste that could not be broken down safely into "syngas" (synthesis gas created by the trash), was broken down into inert slag. The slag product could be used as a construction aggregate to build (or repair) bridges and aging buildings. And this wasn't the only valuable by-product achieved through this process. Apparently, hydrogen is also represents more than 50% of the outlet stream's chemical composition. (See figure below courtesy of www.plasmawastedisposal.com)

Everything can be done to scale. Which means if this could be done at an industrial scale, it could also find use in your home as well. According to waste management world, the process is actually cheaper than existing Waste to Energy (WTE) processes. Which begs the question... WHY ISN'T EVERYONE DOING THIS??
