Availability
-Water volume on the earth surface is about 1,360,000,000 cubic metres.

-it covers about 71% of the earth surface.
-On earth surface,96.5% is contained in sea and ocean,1.7% is contained in groundwater, 1.7% in glaciers and ice caps,0.001% in air as vapours.
Only 2.5% of the available water are freshwater,98.8% is contained in ice and groundwater
-Generally, only about 0.3% is available for use globally.

Forms

-Water exist as solid ,liquid and gas state.
-Water is transparent to visible radiation between 390-760nm.
-Water is liquid at room temperature and it melting point is 0°C.
-Water expands on freezing by 9% it original volume.
-Its the only element that can exist in the three state of matter.

-Water is regarded as a universal solvent.
P. H of drinking water ranges from 6.5 to 8.5 recommended by world health organisation.
-Conductivity of water should not exceed 1000mg/L recommended by world health organisation.
-Water is a good conductor of heatThe standard nephelometer turbidity unit(NTU) for drinking water is 5.
