TMW: THE NATURAL WORLD ( WHAT ARE PRIMATES )

there are about 180 different species of primate most of them living in the tropical regions of the world the most numerous primate is homo sapiens -human being all primates have fairly large brains and forward -facing eyes thhat enable them to judge distances accurately instead of claws or hoofs like other mammals they have fingers and toes with soft sensitive tips they also have the ability to grasp with their fingers thumbs and toes the largest primate is the gorilla a male can weight up to 274 kg 605 lb the smallest is the mouse lemur which has a total body length of only 12.5 cm 6 ins.

the gibbon is a small man like ape found in indo -malayan farests gibbons, unlike the great apes , have elongated arms and hard calloused skin on their buttocks they have canine teeth and live in trees .
