Its only been a couple decades since the Internet became mainstream, yet things have changed dramatically in that time. Most of the technological innovation we find today was unthinkable just a few years ago. This rapid progress has been the driving of the not only the world's economies but also our own imagination. The members of this generation are taking this leaps and bounds forward. The sort of technologies we launched at during our childhood is becoming more and more realistic. Flying cars and jetpacks are just two of many technologies we could see within just a decade from now. Transportation in particular needs a major renewal. Electric Vehicles have already bombarded the market with the likes of Tesla who have changed the way electric cars were perceived. The Hyperloop concept is yet another innovation that has gone from just a plan to an actual working prototype. Even Air-travel which seemed to be moving backwards after the Concord series of airplanes were taken off service are set to make a major comeback with even faster supersonic airplanes.
With all these technologies under development with semi-full automation there are many issues as to how it would play out in a large scale implementation. We need to make sure that whatever technology that we build to make our lives easier and better is carefully evaluated for their ramifications from legislative, ethical and scientific point of views. Who would be to blame when any of these automatous machines fail and cause damage to life and property? Are humans going to be sidelined and be merely consumers?
A new set of rules have to be put in place regarding the best possible implementation of these technologies as well and how potential issues could be resolved. Fortunately, there are plenty of leaders within this field that have started gathering around to contemplate on these questions and come up with ideal solutions which address these potential issues even before they arise.
I plan to write a series of more in-depth articles on related issues and shine some light among the general public.
