Hello all steemian friends.

Continuing my post about animals that have undercover ability in a few posts ago. it is very interesting to learn the ability of animals to adapt to the environment. One is the ability to camouflage to adjust body color to the environment and body shape like other animals that aims to trick when the predators want to prey on them.

The interesting thing we want to discuss today is about Saltuarius eximius a gecko or a kind of lizard found in Cape Melville Australia in 2013 ago. as conveyed by www.theguardian.com.

Previous surveys have been conducted in rock fields around the base of Cape Melville, among "millions of giants, piled large stones the size of homes and cars" but the plateau is largely unexplored, reflected by the "horrible wall" of accessible stones only by helicopter

Leopard-tailed tails "appear primitive" (Saltuarius eximius) are 20 cm in size and are believed to be a relic from the period when rainforests are larger in Australia. The species name is translated as "extraordinary", "extraordinary" or "beautiful", referring to its unusual shape and uniqueness. For detail click here

This type of gecko has the same color as the color of mossy stone boulders because the habitat of his life is in the cave in the country of Australia. Salimarius eximius has a tail that looks like a leaf or a large head shape. An animal capable of disguising extraordinary. This animal is also able to disguise with the log because the pattern on his body will resemble kui leaf and moss crust. A fortune in the newly discovered tropical rainforest since 2013.

Saltuarius eximius according to the findings of the researchers on several species found in the tail form grouped into three types of tails as the following picture.A perfect morphological form for disguise. But it is not known why only three types of groups from this gecko tail shape.

Where to Find and How Much?

Gecko Leaf Saltuarius eximius newly discovered in australia and has never been found in other areas and is an endemic animal of the State of Australia. Let's look at this news quote;

Distribution of 6 other species of Saltuarius genus in northern rock and rainforest of New South Wales to Wet Tropics of Queensland region north-east. The Saltuarius eximius locality is known only in the highlands of the Melville Range, Cape Melville.

"The S. eximius findings add Saltuarius to 7 and extend the genus distribution of 180 km from the northern tip of Saltuarius cornutus in Cooktown to Cape Melville," said Conrad Hoskin, biologist James Cook University in Townsville and Patrick Couper, curator of the Queensland Museum in Brisbane. The species of Saltuarius eximius found by new researchers amounts to 7 species so further research on the diversity of these animals will be done. This is an extraordinary discovery in adding to the list of natural wealth in Australia.

According to www.arod.com

Habitat
All specimens are found in "granite rocks covered by rainforest canopies", "found at night on the vertical surfaces of large boulders or trees, between one and five meters above the ground." For detail click here
A fairly detailed information that I discovered about the habitat and the process of finding queensland leaf geckos.

What do they eat?

These warm-blooded animals are nocturnal animals that are active at night. They usually come out when the temperature is cold when the sun has begun to diminish in intensity. They like to protect themselves from sunlight by hiding under the spider web. They used to eat small insects and mice.

What is interesting about this leaf geckos?

Saltuarius eximius includes an oviparous animal that reproduces by producing an egg that lasts about 4-5 months. Salimarius eximius eggs are oval or oval, from 3 mm to 45 mm, with a solid base where they are guarded by their parents until they hatch. After hatching young Salimarius eximius will begin to continue regenerating their genes. They are equipped with extraordinary disguise ability to be able to save themselves from the predators. They can hide under boulders and tree trunks during the day and go out at night looking for small insects.

Conclusion

Saltuarius eximius is a spectacular type of lizard with its incredible disguise capabilities. Animal ii is endemic to queensland australian and only 7 specimens were found. This discovery adds to our insight into the richness of nature that is becoming more and more of what we do not know. A spectacular natural wealth.
