Ginandromorfismo Bilateral

ABSTRACT
Bilateral gynandromorphy (BGA) is a rare state in which an individual exhibits both male and female traits. Gynandromorphy is exceptional in birds, but has been observed in a number of avian families, and is most commonly reported in the Passeriformes. The general pattern in BGA is female plumage characters on the left side and male characters on the right, corresponding to the orientation of the ovary and testis in birds. We documented observations of a bilateral gynandromorph in a captive love bird (Agapornis spp.), product of two forms: “lutino” (fischeri group), with yellow body, orange head, bright red bill, and bare white circunocular area x “cremino” (roseicollis group), with white body, bill cream colored, no eyering. The bird exhibited the typical yellow and bright orange color of a lutino form on the right half of its body, and the white appearance of a cremino form on the right half, with red bill, and bare white circunocular area.

RESUMEN
El ginandromorfismo bilateral (GAB) define a organismos animales donde al menos dos áreas corporales son sexualmente diferentes, esto es, el individuo es mitad macho y mitad hembra. En aves, el fenómeno es más bien excepcional, y ha sido observado en varias familias, pero mayoritariamente en Passeriformes. Aunque no siempre es así, el patrón cromático en el plumaje de las aves con GAB corresponde, usualmente, a la orientación de testículos y ovarios: plumaje de hembra del lado izquierdo y plumaje de macho del lado derecho. Registramos un caso de ginandromorfismo bilateral en periquitos inseparables (Agapornis sp.) en cautiverio, entre dos variedades: “lutino”, del grupo fischeri: individuos de cuerpo básicamente amarillo y naranja; pico rojo y anillo circunocular blanco, con el “cremino”, del grupo roseicollis, de plumaje primordialmente blanco; pico color carne, sin anillo cicunocular blanco. El individuo ginandromofo bilateral poseía plumaje amarillo y naranja del lado derecho y plumaje blanco con trazos amarillos del lado izquierdo, con el pico todo rojo y anillo cinrcunocular blanco.
