This happened back in 1986 when grapefruit sized hail hit Gopalganj, Bangladesh. The hailstones weighed over 1 kilogram and were one of the heaviest ever recorded. However, this type of freak event doesn't limit itself to specific regions of Planet Earth. For instance, in 2000 in Fort Worth, Texas 19 year old Juan Oseguera was hit in the head with softball sized hail. The blow, which had a force equivalent to someone throwing a masonry brick at your head, killed the teenager instantly. More recently, giant hailstones killed nine people and caused severe damage in Southern China. Footage from this terrifying event can be seen in the video below.
