I sure hope grad school doesn't age me too

That would be great lol!

It will certainly help you get better at learning how to learn. I think that is the skill that is most useful that I got from it, even more so then the actual techniques I use at the bench daily in research.

If that is what I get out of it I would be pretty happy. Knowledge is priceless... I am currently at a job that collects so much data that we aren't using and this will provide me an opportunity to use it to benefit wildlife which is utterly exciting to me.

use it to benefit wildlife

Making the world a better place for people, animals, any living creature is a noble pursuit IMO. It's what drives me in my job as well.

I am biased and have a desire to help wildlife above all else, aside from family and friends because my faith in humanity shrinks a tiny bit more every year. But those who aim to help others without huge payouts hold a high position in my eyes. What do you do for your job?

my faith in humanity shrinks a tiny bit more every year

Mine too TBH.

I am currently a research scientist at a pharmaceutical working on a rare genetic disease. I like my project because its not a money grab, there is no reason to work on this disease unless you actually wanted to help the few people that suffer from it.

That is incredible! I applaud you for your work. Seriously!
I started college wanting to do chemical engineering to create pharmeceuticals to help seriously ill people. But my passion for wildlife and the corruption in the pharmaceutical industry pushed me into the direction I've headed. So now I make no money but love the job that I do, most days anyways.

There are a lot of bad eggs in pharma, but not everyone is. Then there are some projects like mine that maybe are kept around to make companies look good, but I don't care why they keep it around, I only care that they do. The team I am apart of works really hard (and struggles) and we are making some progress. I am hoping it is enough to keep the project going. There is always the chance to be thrown on the scrap heap in pharma.

There are good and bad in all fields admittedly... I sure hope your project continues til success! And it's great you are working for the right reasons.

Thank you :)
