Imagine a shoe lace - they have a protective cap that keeps your shoe laces from fraying. This is similar to the telomere protecting your DNA from deteriorating, which is what happens naturally as we age.
It's fascinating. Study shows that we do in fact have the ability to lengthen our telomeres, or at least assist in preventing the shortening of them. Doing things like living on a plant based diet, keeping active every day, have shown to lengthen the telomeres by 10% at least. Ever heard people say live healthy, live longer? Well it's scientifically proven.
Deterioration of telomeres is also associated with disease, cancer and, well, aging and all the things getting old brings with it.
Modified messenger RNA is used in a procedure to extend the telomeres. RNA carries instructions from genes in the DNA to the cell's protein-making factories. However, procedures are temporary and stick around for about 48 hours.
Today I am thankful for Scientists and the people that never stop looking for answers.

Post a citation for a plant based diet resulting in 10% longer telomeres. I don't think that statement is scientifically proven.
Additionally, there has yet to be shown a correlation between extending telomeres and longer life. Shortening telomeres lead to disease, but lengthening them does not cure disease, nor does it prevent disease. Do you know what sort of cells have extremely long telomeric regions? Cancer cells.
