Benedicts Test - Testing for Simple Sugars

Aim: To test a sample of food to determine whether or not it contains simple sugars.

Method:

  1. Add 2mL Benedicts Solution to a sample of food. Heat over a Bunsen burner.

Results:

Conclusion:
When I added the blue Benedicts solution and then heated it, the solution went green then orange then a red/orange colour.

Iodine Test - Testing for Complex Sugars

Aim: To test a sample of food to determine whether or not it contains complex sugars.

Method:

  1. Add a sample of the food to be test into a test tube.
    2.Add 3-5 drops of iodine and mix

Results:

Conclusion:
When we added the brown iodine, the sample turned black.

Biuret Test - Testing for Protein

Aim: To test a sample of food to determine whether or not it contains protein.

Method:

  1. Add a sample of the food to be test into a test tube.

  1. Add NaoH and then CuSO4

Results:

Conclusion
A positive test for protein is when the blue solution turned purple

Translucent Paper Test - Testing for Fats (Lipids)

Aim: To test a sample of food to determine whether or not it contains fats.

Method:

  1. Add a sample of the food on to absorbent paper

Results:

Conclusion:
The fat absorbed into the paper and made it translucent.

Thank you for words. I am trying to promote Steemit to every person who will listen to me. As a teacher, my students are very inquisitive about what platform I am using. When I explain it to them, they are first suscipious but then excited about the possibilities.
