The mass of the sun exceeds the mass of our planet is about 333000 times and produces the same amount of energy as 100 billion hydrogen bombs every second. Huge lot makes this star the dominant gravitational force in the Solar system, securely locking all eight planets in their orbits. At the same time, energy from the sun heats the Earth to the extent necessary for the catalyst of life — water.
But what would happen if the sun suddenly will take and will disappear? Many people can't even imagine such a situation. However, the problem is not so stupid as it seems at first glance. At least, this thought experiment did not neglect himself, albert Einstein — well, we, based on his calculations, will try to tell you what really happens to the Earth if suddenly will go.
Gravity
Before the question was asked by Einstein, scientists believed that gravity changes are instantaneous. If it really were so, then the disappearance of the sun instantly sent to all eight planets in the endless journey through the dark depths of the galaxy. But Einstein proved that the speed of light and the speed of gravity is propagated at the same time — and that means we have eight minutes to enjoy a normal life, before we realize the disappearance of the Sun.
Eternal night
The sun may just die. In this case, humanity won't remain in full darkness, filled with desperate madmen the planet. The stars will still Shine, the plants to work, and people quite possibly will not start to ignite the fires of the Inquisition, a dozen years. But it will stop photosynthesis. Most plants will die within a few days — but that's not what should concern us the most. The Earth's average temperature will drop to -17 degrees Celsius in a week. By the end of the first year, our planet will experience a new ice age.
The rest of his life
Of course, a big part of life on Earth, his existence will cease. Less than a month, killed almost all plants. Large trees can survive a few more years, as they have large reserves of nutritive sucrose. But, nothing will face certain microorganisms — so, technically, life on Earth will continue.
The survival of the people
But what will happen to our species? Professor of astronomy Eric Blechman sure we will be able to survive without the Sun. This happens due to the volcanic heat that can be used for domestic heating and for industrial purposes. It is best to live in Iceland: people here already heat the house with geothermal energy.
Endless journey

I enjoyed your article. One thing i would add though, when our sun dies it will turn into a "white dwarf" with roughly half the mass of what is has currently. Even before that though, the process of our dying sun will most likely engulf our planet as it expands. Predictions on how far our sun will expand before it shrinks down to a white dwarf i believe is almost all the way to mars. If somehow it doesn't engulf the earth, and we don't burn up. I think it will still have enough of a gravitational pull to keep us in orbit. Jupiter will slowly leave the solar system and everything beyond the goldie locks belt will drift away too. This -->article<-- is also a good read about our sun as a white dwarf
