Progress on Tesla research

in science •  7 years ago

Recently someone asked me this:

I noticed a slight change of subject matter on your Steemit page and wanted to know if you and your Ethergy company are doing alright?

The thing is it is rain season now, and we have had some very heavy rains. Every thing is soaking wet and that is not ideal for generating 1-2 million Volts at 60,000 Watt. So these experiments are temporarily suspended.

But I am doing small scale experiments to see how sparks are formed.

In this image for example you see a double spark gap with a Tesla coil connected to the left-most electrode and a ground wire on the right end. When the coil is energized you see a glow (St. Elmo's fire) emerge at the ground wire which at some point extends into a spark and triggers the break of the spark gap nearest to the Tesla coil.
What is interesting here is that the gap to the ground wire breaks first, while of course it's potential is always 0.

Then Nature handed me this...
I noticed that the bathroom floor dries better during nights with rain as compared to nights without rain. Now that may look as an entirely useless observation but it is actually closely related to Tesla's work.
As it appears rain leaves the air drier, so in other words raindrops on their passage through the air collect atmospheric moist.
Now remember how Tesla planned on using high voltage discharges to collect atmospheric electricity? In Tesla's theories that is exactly the same thing.
So it is not actual proof of his theory but it is a beautiful analogy.

We're not there yet, but I'm confident that we eventually will, and unlock this great new source of renewable energy.

@creatr

I have something that may interest you....
The plot thickens....
But I still have to prepare that post.
Stay tuned, my friend!

I will be watching, friend @mage00000. Thanks for the heads up! :D

It's here.

Thank you very much. :D

I forgot about all the hurricanes this season :O
Fantastic thought experiment! Although the photo is obscured enough, I see the importance of this particular spark gap demonstration. This was not what I was expecting, but goes right in line with your previous writings.

Keep it up! :)

Yes, I am sorry for the quality of the picture. The camera focusses on something in the background, I guess.
It is very difficult to get it right.
