Scientists found that bees have a preference for left or right, and this influences their decisions when navigating through obstacles at night.
Unlike humans bees do not prefer one or the other direction when it comes to the whole population . But every bee can be strong right-handed or left-handed strong, and some just do not have any preferences.
To determine this, a team of scientists from Australia, followed 102 working bees, which have been marked with different color paints to be able to distinguish from one another. Bees were introduced in a tunnel long 120 cm, at the end of which there was a feed trough and in the middle there is an obstacle with two separate openings that can vary in size and proportion relative to each other. Left-handed and right-handed were distributed almost equally.
Bees are joining the growing list of animals that have a preference for left or right. There are rhesus monkeys, rats, marmozekite and some insects .
