Scientists have discovered a new way to fix neurological disorders in humans

The researchers have prepared the first artificial neuron which can reproduce the same functions of organic brain cell.

Neurons have function to store and transmit the information in the brain. Nerve cell communicate information in our brain with the help of chemical signals. The artificial neurons detect the chemical signals and these signals are transmitted electrically from one cell to another. These electrical signals in response release neurotransmitters chemicals. These chemicals act as messengers and carry signals in the brain.

Artificial neurons have ability to transmit information over larger distances. These are made up of conductive polymers and there are no living components inside neurons. The size of these artificial neurons is like size of fingertip. This smaller size helps its implantation into human body easily thus replacement of damaged nerve cells becomes effective.

Artificial neurons can be used to treat the neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease and spinal cord injuries. These artificial neurons are so fast that they can fire up to one billion times per second, much faster than human neurons.

In another innovation, the scientists have designed a chip with artificial synapses. The synapses are brain cell connections. These connections enable nerve cells to communicate with one another in human brain. Synapses enable our brains to manage millions of tasks and enable accurate control of electrical currents to flow just like ions flow between neurons. The process copies how synapses regulate neurons in human brain.

The artificial synaptic chip was tested and it recognized the handwriting samples with 95% accuracy. The artificial synapses are the building block of artificial brain. These chips are very innovative and are used to make small and portable artificial intelligence devices and can also be used to do complex calculations in the future.

The researchers are also preparing superconductor computing chips that can copy information and do calculations faster than human brain. These chips act like artificial neurons of superconductors.

However, more research is required to better understand human nervous system. It will enable them to create hardware that can precisely act like human brain.

What a good news!! I hope that this will become a reality someday, but I think, that as almost all this kind of news, it is still in a very early stage of development and probably researchers will need lot of years until it is fully available to the public. But it's a first step in the right way!
