Laser Gamma Ray Burst - Reproduce the Extreme environment on the earth.

in science •  7 years ago

The Big Bang to the black hole, there are lots of extreme environments that can not be seen in real, although it is theoretically assumed that the universe is probably this way.

Physicist who had been carrying out research with a tremendously bold stroke has succeeded in reproducing the extreme environment which is considered to cause gamma-ray burst with the super powerful laser.

Gamma-ray burst is supposed to be unfamiliar, even physicists are not able to elucidate what this phenomenon is and how it occurs. Gamma-ray burst is the brightest phenomenon observed in the universe, and its light is intense enough to be confirmed with the naked eye, even if it is 10.36 million light years away from the earth. Many scientists think that they will be squirted from celestial bodies with huge mass such as black holes. So understanding the gamma-ray burst seems to lead to understanding the black hole.

Mr. Gianluca Sarri, a physicist at Queen's University Belfast in UK Queen's University in the UK is researching as a leading physicist in laser physics. Also writing articles that physically explain how to make a lightsaber, and is active in multi. According to Mr. Sarri's website, it is searching for substances in extreme situations that are stepping on him.

For example, plasma. Materials in the atmosphere of a sun-like stellar atmosphere or the nucleus of a giant planet like Jupiter, which is not thought to be on the earth, will go through a solid, a liquid, a gas and become a plasma. It is in a state electron state, where electrons are far away from the atom to heat, and in fact, 99% of the material in the universe is in the state of plasma.

When it gets hot it does not stabilize even this plasma state, it seems to separate into the matter and its opposite twin and antimatter. This state is called positron plasma, and it is said that the mass of electrons and positrons as its antimatter are perfectly balanced. The universe right after the Big Bang is thought to have been filled with this positron plasma, but no one has ever directly observed positron plasma.

Although the introduction long, in the same way, Mr. Sarri tried to make this positron plasma artificially to reproduce the universe immediately after the big bang. In 2015, it seems to have succeeded in making positron plasma for the first time in the world by passing an ultra-powerful laser beam through the negative pressure vacuum.

The universe just after the Big Bang generate to be a tremendous heat of about 100,000,000,000,000 degrees Celsius and it is not easy to reproduce such an extreme environment and even large facilities such as CERN It was impossible. Therefore, the research team led by Mr. Sarri seems to have come up with miniaturization of experiment with the idea of reversal.

For the experiment, Astra Gemini 's superpower laser of Rutherford Appleton Laboratory was introduced. The power of this laser, how much is 500,000,000,000,000 watts (0.5 petawatts).

Even though it was a bold experiment that took off such a powerful laser, as the scale was minimal it seemed that it needed delicate adjustment.

According to Mr. Sarri's " in this an experiment, we were able to confirm for the first time the natural occurrence of a sustained magnetic field, one of the phenomena which are said to play a major role when gamma-ray burst occurs. It is an experimental result that supports the strength and distribution of the magnetic field which was only a theoretical prediction so far and proved that the theoretical model for understanding the gamma-ray burst was roughly wrong."

It is like part of the universe with teleportation in a sense to be able to reproduce the extreme environment, the universe in the laboratory on the earth using an ultra-powerful laser. By being able to do this, reseachers can see how the black hole evolves and can investigate what the gamma-ray burst is.
