Yeah but you could also die from boredom...

The Science Of The Relationship Between Church Attendance And How Long You Live
:-)
This is all about statistics. As long as more people die because of stress, drugs and accidents than because of boredom, conservative church goers should live longer than progressive adventurers. :)

True. How could we find out how many more people die from boredom. It could be a silent killer. Maybe when people get really bored they get stressed, use drugs and get into accidents hehe

Even if it may be hard to evaluate all possible reasons for different lifespans (and how many % they contribute to someone's earlier/later death) we can measure how long people live.
And if we find out that people who go to church regularly live longer in average we can speculate that having less stress (taking less drugs / living risk-free) has more impact on lifespan than being bored. :)

Maybe yeah, if we assume that going to church implies that you take less drugs and live with less risk. Maybe people go to church more regularly because they live longer. I would like to see how they calculated it, not that I disagree, just curious what the endogenous variables were if it was a regression analysis.

Right, I didn't claim that going to church is the (main) reason for their longer lives. I just said that people who go to church live longer.
Of course going to church actually could contribute to a longer life in case it is reducing the stress level of the church goers. I don't know how big the impact is. It could also for example be that being conservative and thus less risk averse is the main reason for the longer lives and for going to church. So both the longer lives and going to church are not the cause for each other, but instead of that being conservative is the cause for both.

Well, whatever the case may be, I agree with you. I have heard about the correlation from a number of sources. People who isolate themselves run into problems psychologically and otherwise. Just look at JD Salinger and probably a number of people with PTSD.
